Whisteblower on person selling 6.1 software and service

Knew that was coming..... If that person was charging $60 dollars to set up ultimate launch and he was using my icons doing it, I wouldn't have a problem with it. He is getting paid for labor time. Now if he had an auction that was selling my icons yes I would have a problem with it. But im in an industry that that makes its money on labor time, and I value getting over paid for skills that most people lack.

And honestly the more people that use my work...the happier I am. Hell if the creator of ultimate launch wanted to use my icons as default ones that he SOLD with the product I would let him do it for free. No skin off my back.

seriously. no "warez" here but it's acceptable to rip copyrighted software from other phones and use them on our own. i think posting 1 cent auctions for info on how to do it yourself would be cool, who is going to take the time to do this step by step with pics maybe?

too bad those icons suck and only people who like bright annoying phones use them. seriously how hard was it to create a blank square canvas use the custom shape tool to make the border bevel it, then throw in a gradient with what is it over lay effect? copy+paste the icon of the app between the gradient and a black bg and boom, you have those icons. pfffft

that fool selling his "services" is doing something illegal, if people brought in a win95 computer to a shop and paid $45/hour for the guy to "upgrade" it. he CANNOT install win98/winXP and not charge a license fee. he is installing other peoples work. wrong, lame, annoying.

Ok WTF?! You seriously don't have any right to start ripping on someone who has the patience, kindness, and time to make such nice icons. He has been making them based on peoples requests too.

And in case you didn't notice, up2no6ood has NO problem with someone making money off his work.
I like these "bright and annoying" icons, so how about you mind your own damn business and make YOUR phone look like how YOU want it instead of jamming your offensive opinions on this forum again. He isn't charging for his icons, and if you don't use them, you shouldn't be so unappreciative.

And yes, it is illegal if he was charging for an OS that actually costs money, BUT Microsoft released WM6 to carriers for FREE so that they could update phones they wanted to put WM6 on.

So what have you done for the forum? besides bring a bad attitude and cut down other members. There are many people who like my icons and I have spent many hours making them. Judging by your attitude im guessing your a boring doom and gloom kind of guy who thinks TV is better in black and white. My god, what a complete jerk. But its ok I wont let a crabby *** truck driver who has no worth to the members of this forum ruin my day. As far as your illegal opinion, If that was the case any chef that adds 6.1 to his rom is also doing something illegal. As far as i know 6.1 is an update and a computer repair shop can charge you to install an update " if your too stupid to do it yourself". Liscence fee????? If you noticed you cant just go to a store and purchase windows mobile. Owning the phone gives you an inherent lisence. Further more; for those of you that are complaining, If you have ever downloaded a copyrighted song, movie, game, cracked program, searched for a reg. code, That is STEALING, and may you get hit by a bus.

p.s I have talked to the seller, here is his response. If you noticed he has changed his auction and has referenced ppc geeks and xda,

check my auction out now, maybe that will help, I donate to the chefs at both of those whenever i can. man i take a risk on every phone i upgrade, if i brick that phone i am buying that person a new one. i do allot more than just flash it and send it back. i set it up real sweet and its running smooth when i ship it back. i give them support after the sale by email. that is what i charge for, not making money off of the great chefs that are out there. like i said, i give when i can. read the feedback i have i am not just selling the chefs work like allot of people are on eBay i sell the service of upgrading the persons phone and service later. believe me i get tons of questions via that email

I emailed the seller as well and got this reply.

i am not out right selling other peoples work if someone messages me and ask's for just the software i promptly tell them if they feel comfortable upgrading there phone themselves to go to www.xda-developers.com

i provide a service to people that either dont want to take a chance of bricking the phone or would rather have someone that knows how to upgrade it properly do it i spend time on these phones if you want to ***** check out all the sellers on here that sell your work colonel's work dcd's work schapps work and just send the people either links or a cd with the roms and instructions i dont do that should i not get paid for working on these phones? plus the million questions i answer giving them the after sale support o dont just flash a rom or send them a rom i set up the phone configure it properly then ship the phone back i donate to the developers every month any dev that accepts donations has had one from me every phone i do i take a risk of bricking it and then i have to buy them a new phone and it happens i just replaced one last week but i dont feel i am doing wrong if i was just listing and selling the roms that would be one thing i AM providing a service to people and do a good job before and after the sale.. man alot of people would prefer to pay to have me upgrade the phone than them messing it up so i do it for them and charge for my time knowledge and technical support
and damn i put right in my ad the links to both xda and ppcgeeks so it isnt like they wont know they can do it themselves it clearly states that in my ad and says donate to the chef's I DO

hmmmm alll this defending must be you.

He has actually stated he does not use buildos or any kitchen for that matter I have asked for a ROM to verify as such if so then case closed if not then he is just a flat out liar.

You guys this is totally legal, so I'm really not sure why you're jumping down this guys throat. This is a service he is providing...if you haven't noticed the USA is built on the entire service industry; so if I were him, politely screw off.

At the very least, it is extremely irritating.

However, I can (somewhat) see an anology with PC Setup and Configuration services ... a person advertises the ability to optimize your insert vendor name PC, and all they do is install the latest hardware drivers, including, for example tweaked drivers from laptopvideo2go or rage3d, etc.

Imagine if what he was doing was as simple as installing the WWE RUU file and vendor customizations from HTC, along with a unique theme that he put together.
