Can OEM's be taken out of a current ROM. And a few other noob ?'s

I am as you can tell pretty new to trying to build ROM's. I have used a bunch of different ROM's from different chef's and was wondering if it was possible to take somehow copy a OEM off of a ROM.

Also I have found info on how to turn a .cab into a OEM, but seem to have trouble finding this package creator 5.5 Is this a freeware program or a for purchase program. Also are there any other programs that may be better / easier to use?

I have been using BuildOS and when I go to add different OEM's into the User OEM folder it seems to be having an issue with coping over the iniflash.txt file and the option.xml file etc. Can I leave these OEM's in the user oem folder inside their own folder?

Thanks

You can try OEMizer for converting some cabs.

The structure for adding OEMs goes like this..
c:\program files\ppckitchen.org\USER_OEM\SomeOEM
Then all files for the OEM are inside that. No subfolders allowed, except dll modules.

If you're getting errors when buildOS is trying to load up your option.xml, that means the syntax is probably wrong. Same for initflashfiles.txt. If there's a problem with the option.xml I would remove that OEM completely when building as it may get built in accidently (no option.xml means you have no choice and it will be added to your ROM).

Re: Can OEM's be taken out of a current ROM. And a few other noob ?'s

So does that mean there is no way to copy a oem out of one rom then put it into another? I am asking because I have some roms with programs I want, but dont have the oem.

When I look it goes C:\Program Files\ppckithen.org\USER_OEM\ Then the only folders in there are additional sounds, additional ringtones, additional themes. I dont see a folder SomeOEM

I guess I am not getting an error, but when I copy any of the OEM's into that USER_OEM folder it says do you want to overwrite the initflashfiles.txt then the option.xml file ..etc.....

SomeOEM = Whatever OEM you put in USER_OEM.
An OEM is a folder filled with files for that particular OEM. You can't drop them all into one folder.

Additional Sounds, themes and ringtones are all OEMs. You can look at those for an example.

Yes, you can copy OEMs that other people have created, or pull OEMs out of one kitchen and put them in another. You may have to tweak the OEM to work, and it is possible that it may not work at all, but I have used OEMs from one kitchen with another. Sometimes it is easier to just create your own depending on what you are doing.

yes, you can copy OEM's from another kitchen from the OEM folder, but if you're trying to copy a OEM from a ROM, that is much harder, as the OEM will NOT be in it's own OEM folder, the files will be scattered throughout. technically all the files from that ROM will be in there, but it would be very difficult to copy.

your best bet is to ask others to share their OEM, or search the FTP for the OEM your looking for or create your own.

Here is the OEM creator you asked about....

Re: Can OEM's be taken out of a current ROM. And a few other noob ?'s

Cool thanks for all the help. I guess the first time I put a folder in the USER_OEM folder there was some issue as it wouldnt work. I was thinking each OEM needed its own folder inside the USER_OEM folder, but I guess I should have tried more than once.

Edit: Removed a completely retarded question.
