I think it's DCD's rom or the new update. I'm experiencing the same problems and I did not have them before the Official ROM but ever since then I'm always calling people and what not.

OK so I may be able to shed some light on this as I had to support windows mobile since the 6601....

if you have an app running that uses a data connection (IM, pop3/imap email, weather app) and you are suspended (ie:power button pressed to turn off) and you loose that connection.... some apps will imediatly try to restore that connection when it can. if this happens the ppc will "wake up" long enought to connect to the data network. this is fine id you have your phone on the table but sucks if it is in your pocket.

Another way is if you use ActiveSync to an Exchange server. same as above except you can also have it wake up when something changes in your mailbox (you read a message/add a contact). Exchange sends a "wake up and sync" message to the phone and it complies.

without a physical lock switch like on Treo WM device I am not sure how to avoid this issue.

Now, if someone could figure out how to re-assign the WiFi switch to be a device lock that would kick buttocks!

My Mogul does it all the time. I have a 102 min call from it actually! how it ended up being a 102 min and why is a long but simple story. But seriously, I just thought it was a roaming thing or a data thing. Annoying yes. But literally with nothing touching it or even changing area it does it. I get annoyed picking it up thinking it's a text or incoming call and it's nothing.

I have had this problem ever since I first got my Mogul. It even did it with the stock ROM before I setup any outlook exchange stuff. I just assumed that it was a problem all moguls had and one day one of these customs ROM's would fix it but no luck yet.

FYI.. If your phone ever has stuff displayed on it when you pull it out of your pocket then it woke up while it was in your pocket and you may have never known.
I hope this issue is eventually fixed as well because I can't stand to use S2U2 or any of the locking features and will just deal with closing the random things I "pocket dial" and open accidentally in my pocket until then.

by any chance did anyone check to see if the button lock is on? it prevents the phone from turning on by touchng the screen or another button but the power/standby button...
Start...Settings...System...Key Lock...make sure "lock all buttons except power button" is ticked? id start there...as in dcd's rom its not set by default

As much as I hate to say it, I'm glad to at least see I'm not alone. There are some awfully smart people here when it comes to WM, and being that it's not just me, i'm confident that it will eventually be resolved.

I just find it so absolutely annoying that a $500 device would be unwilling / incapable of performing a function like 'go to sleep'. I just want to scream at it sometimes... "I said go to sleep!, NOT go to sleep for a little while!"

I just checked the keylock setting, and you are correct, mine was not set to "lock all buttons"..

I made the change, and the phone is now sitting on the desk in front of me... I'll report back in a while with weather it spontaneously wakes up or not..

Truthfully, I won't know for sure though until I get home this evening. The phone does it 10 times more often when i'm at home (different coverage??) than it does when i'm in my office... I just noticed that yesterday.

Mine's been set to 'lock all buttons except for power' and it still starts dialing like crazy periodically. I think I agree with the data connection hypothesis above. the question is how to fix it...

PS I'm running stock 3.35
