Re: Internet calling / VOIP - Mogul
In order to make Internet Calling work, you have to set up your sip settings using the latest sipconfigtool. Then, you need to set up your dialplan by editing ipdialplan.xml in your \Windows\ directory. When that is all done, if it can register to the sip provider (usually if your data connection is active) it will, and then your dialer will display the name of your sip provider instead of your cell provider. If you have your dialplan set up right, you can set it up to know which numbers to dial using which service, or have it default to try one first and then the other.
However: Internet calling doesn't work very well. The audio quality is so-so on the other end, and the volume on the mogul is so low that it is totally unusable (actually, maybe with nueSound this could be fixed... I doubt it, but I'll have to try that sometime soon). The biggest problem that I ran into, however, is that for some reason when the ip phone was connected, the cell phone signal strength dropped by at least 6db, which essentially means unless I was standing outside with a perfect view of the tower I usually had no service. Your mileage may vary. If you're still interested, I can dig out my ipdialplan.xml that I made to work with a gizmo project login. |

Re: Internet calling / VOIP - Mogul
In my experience, Skype seems to work reasonably well, with a few things to consider: 1. Since we're relying on the phone's processor and 3rd party apps for encoding, audio will not be fantastic (but it is passable) 2. Audio will come out of the speaker. Workarounds: a. use a bluetooth headset (I actually haven't tried this personally, but have heard others say that it works), b. use a wired headset (works great for me). 3. This is not a SIP client, so you can't use it as such. But, if the skype network works for you, you're in good shape. You can also find SJPhone for PocketPC (do a google search, you'll probably find it), and that works decently for me. there is also The gizmo Project (http://www.gizmo5.com) and WengoPhone (again, search). Hope this helps. |

Re: Internet calling / VOIP - Mogul
I just tested voip with the Mogul, and the use of the wrong speaker makes it completely unusable. It does however, work beautifully if you use the headphones that were included with the mogul.

Re: Internet calling / VOIP - Mogul
VOIP Question. I was looking at the setup VOIP app by Schap and it asks a ton of questions. I also noticed a reference to using VoIP on the phones data connection. I am more interested in trying to use VoIP while around the house or other areas that have wifi avaiable. Has anyone done this and what did you do to get it to work?
My friend has T-Mobile and some Samsung slider phone that has wifi and because he gets basically no range at my house we set his phone up to connect to my wifi. Once the phone is connected it automatically switches to internet calling and works great. Can I setup my Titan to work this same way? mr.ellsworth |
