Cool, I now have the weekend to look forward to and a Rom update as well.

If it's true, it'll give me a chance to clear out the cobwebs on my Mogul and start fresh again...

Oh an I must say having the built in GPS is nice I do a lot of driving for work so it comes in handy and means I don't have to use my BlueTooth GPS unit causing more power drain.

How are u getting OZ to work, im using DcD's latest rom and i still get the md5 error....

What is the best way to back up third pary apps, pics, video in preparation for the ROm update?

I use Sprite Backup for Apps and PimBackup for contacts, notes, and other user data.

Sprite is commercial, PimBackup ( 2.8 ) is Free. I suppose you could use PimBackup for everything, cutting out Sprite but I've never tried it.

I use both to backup to the flash card. Sprite has the added capability, that I use every so often, to backup wirelessly via WiFi to an FTP server. Nice.

Doesn't Sprite backup the PIM data as well?

I thought it did and supposed to also handle OS updates as well but I can tell you first-hand, from the 2.09 -> 2.17 update experience, that it does not.

Good thing I had my contacts and notes saved via ActiveSync. Sprite handled the Apps OK but ended up faulting somewheres along the restore process.
Sprite handles backups and restores quite well, no PIM data however, as long as the OS has not changed.

I use SPB backup and it's great, doesn't backup sms messages I don't think but personally, that's not an issue for me.

I just created an account to somewhat validate this.

Last week I was on a plane up to Seattle and it turned out the girl next to me works for HTC. I showed her my phone and the hacked rom and then explained how much I love it. About mid flight she opened up her outlook and showed me an email that she had that said specifically that this rom would be released March 4th or 5th. She then said, it would probabbly be pushed back a week but to keep checking the site the first 2 weeks of March and that they're not going to budge on this. Apparently there were some memory leaks that have now been fixed which is what took this so long to release.

It was not memory leaks.. It was a major bug found within Windows Media Player... This is what delayed the Rom from Middle of Feb... It was resolved and sent back to the Sprint lab for validation..

hope that gives a bit of insight...

As for the people about WM6.1 come on It was just released for Manufacturing from Microsoft middle of Feb... It will take a bit of Time for it to be put onto the Mogul Officially... More than Likely the Touch will get 6.1 before the mogul... But both will get 6.1

If in fact Sprint does release another update for the Mogul with 6.1, this would be a serious break in 'tradition' for Sprint.
Normally you'd have to wait for a new phone to get something like this.

Re: Mogul Update - ROM "Speculation" Thread Part II

I'm glad I learned that info about Sprite Backup then! But I just tried PIM Backup and it slows down the phone to a complete crawl. It tried to backup my data for 20 mins and it said it disconnected from Outlook in the log but it was just sitting there, so I ended up having to force-quit it then do a soft-reset. After the soft-reset I tried running it and it ran super slow again so I didn't even bother trying the backup.

Well I was very excited to read this, seeing as how I now own a 6800 instead of my 6700, but then I hit on the picturemail stuff and what not. So slightly deflated here. I have to start all over again here learning 6800 inside and out now. Guess I do this thingy first on Monday and go from there.

the light in the bottom left of the screen is a common problem. i'm actually fairly confident every mogul has this "problem." so yes, mine has it too.

Kind of bizarre that Sprint would put the entire upgrade instructions? into a tech support e-mail... and even more bizarre that it has a 2007 date at the bottom. Almost sounds like someone 'enhanced' the current upgrade instructions with a few lines about GPS and revA....... pardon my skepticism but I have seen all this before, so I wont get too excited about this until I see it. no2chems 6.1 v2.0 build 5050 rom is fine as far as I am concerned

But March 10 is a Monday. I'd be thrilled if they could release the upgrade on tomorrow Friday so we have two full days on the weekend to play with it.

Releasing on Fridays is never a good idea. If the update were to break your phone you might need to wait all weekend before it can be fixed.

I'm excited about this, but I cannot believe that Sprint won't allow MMS on WM phones. Every other carrier in the U.S. has MMS working on Windows Mobile. IMHO there is no excuse for this, and is just another nail in the coffin for a failing company.

Don't get me wrong, I love my Sprint service, but is it any wonder why they're hemorrhaging subscribers the way they are?

Mine does not have the dreaded white spots either, so I guess not every mogul has this problem, so no mine does not have it. :) Unless you were just trying to be a drama queen about your phone, if so, then queen on!

You may not have it yet if you don't restart your phone often and you don't use vibrate...it seems to be a biproduct of the vibration motor in the phone.

OZ Instant Messenger is an IM application included on the Sprint Touch that has not been able to be ported to the Mogul. The appealing thing of this IM app is that it uses OZ' servers to log in and keep your status, however, it does not keep an active data connection all the time.

It relies on SMS while in "dormant" mode to rely messages.

Hope that made sense and asnwer the question, sorry it didn't get answered before.

It could still make sense they paste the entire instructions, it is after all an e-mail aimed to tech support. They may do this to get techs to start familiarizing with the process if they are not already.

Would it be better for techs to have to read this from the HTC site the exact same date it is released to the public? It would suck for anyone that calls in for tech support.

Also, the 2007 date is only a copyright date. Copyright dates are sometimes forgotten to update, I believe it may also depend on the fiscal of the company... but that may be stretching.

Finally, maybe the person sending the e-mail simply forgot to change the 2007 to 2008 on their e-mail siganture... hey, it happens. I wrote a check with 2007's date the other day

I think thats what it is. Almost every website I've gone to still hasn't updated their copyright. The ACT corporation still has the 2007 copyright as did adobe about 3 weeks ago
