Official ROM Release Date Confirmed!

Read this before you start flaming....

So, recognizing that it is definately NOT early Q1 2008 anymore, I decided to go on an info seeking quest with Sprint Customer Service. After about 45 minutes of being put on hold...transfered twice...some social engineering....I finally got transfered to a device engineer. Mind you, this was not any type of customer service rep or tech support guy. This was an engineer who actually worked on it.

He confirmed, and very quickly I might add (didn't need to look anything up....he immediately knew the answer), that the update we all DESPERATELY want will come out this Friday, February 15th. I said to him, "This Friday? That's a strange day. You guys usually release on Mondays." He replied, "Yes, it is an unusual day. We are releasing it on Friday because it's already late to market."

I think this is pretty credible info. He backed it up with admission of a strange release day and the fact that it's late.

Now, bring it on Naysayers....

king_tee 02-13-2008 03:28 PM

Dagummit and i just finished tweaking and getting my phone were i want it to be now this!!!!! Oh well thats the life of a PPCGeek We Shall See.

D Mobile 02-13-2008 03:29 PM

Anxiously waiting.

Cumulus 02-13-2008 03:32 PM

furthermore, as another person speculated in another thread, will this official rom have the MMS we need?

smassele 02-13-2008 03:42 PM

I done with speculating, hoping, wishing, and waiting...I won't believe anything I hear even from Sprint,

smassele 02-13-2008 03:43 PM

I done with speculating, hoping, wishing, and waiting...I won't believe anything I hear even from Sprint, Microsoft, or HTC themselves. You can count on all of them like you can count on gas to get 2 dollars cheaper within the week. When it is available for download is when I will believe

Mary_holk 02-13-2008 03:59 PM

Apprehensive optimism

Did you think to ask if it was an official 6.1 build or just a 6.0 build? Not that I think I would ever go back to a Sprint ROM ever again though, all I care about if an official Radio and Rev. A PRL

rajuabju 02-13-2008 04:00 PM

Honestly.... who cares about their ROM's at this point. Anything by No2Chem and DCD is better anyhow.

meatlocker 02-13-2008 04:00 PM

Sprint will also be sending out agents to each and every device owner, to personally flash your phone for you and tell you, in person, that they love you and really value your business. When the flashing is complete, the agent will proceed to give you a full body massage with genuine Ethiopian cocoa butter for a full 90 minutes.
Lastly, as the agent departs your home or office, they will hand you a crisp $100 bill, slightly sticky from the still-warm cocoa butter on their hands.

That's just creepy, I mean how do you even already know that Ethiopian cocoa butter is the best or whatever, ROTFLMAO!

bedoig 02-13-2008 04:07 PM

Mmmm....Cocoa Butter.....

I carefully chose my words when speaking to him. I didn't want to make it sound like I knew too much about PPCs for the fear that he would think, "Damn...another one of those fucking Mogul hackers. I ain't telling him shit!"....:D

rstcso 02-13-2008 04:19 PM

I heard their CSRs take turns being the "engineer".

I heard that too. I also heard that "Sprint" is actually only three people (two guys and a chick) who are very good at doing different voices.

That is true and seems well practiced. Although I have Alltel, the roms I use ultimately stem from Sprint and I believe that custom roms for the 6800 series phones may finally be reaching a point of bliss...

A "Official" release may not really provide any real benefits and likely they know that the beta 3.16 pooh rom was leaked and hacked/developed into the 24k gold/GPS/Rev. A rom...

That would be one hell of a "Official" rom/"Oops, we dropped the ball and we are sorry" release...

I second this motion.

Genjinaro 02-13-2008 05:30 PM

Still I heard downgrading any of them was mission impossible for alot of people & connection woes for those who keep them.

I rather have (i.e., N2C or DCD) customize with whats coming rather than the test-ROM thats out now.

+1

I second that. I want this ROM to come out so DCD can work his magic.

ABSOLUTLEY!! they are just providing the tools necessary for these guys to build a smokin ROM.

furiousgtz 02-13-2008 05:45 PM

Nice...lets hope its true.

akastixx 02-13-2008 06:19 PM

heh feb 15 could be looked at as early early q1 2008... if they did it before 12pm.

q1 2008 = 91 days
if you only take into account a "early" and "late" part of a quarter and not a "mid", then early q1 2008 would be 45.5 days and would end at 12pm feb 15 (whenever 12pm happens latest in usa or the world)

i wouldn't put it past the companies involved to use this logic.

i just hope they fixed and/or added enough things for the phone to be up to snuff, because we could be looking at our next-to-last if not last official update.

pixelwix 02-13-2008 06:27 PM

all i really hope for in this rom is a better radio, to fix some of the issues people having with gps being faint. i could careless about the os, as we already have windows mobile 6.1

I for one care. Thats what gives No2Chem and DCD the raw materials with which to do their awesome work.

Krayziepop 02-13-2008 07:52 PM

Well, the Radio flash can only be done by HTC/Sprint, so thats one good reason to anticipate an official release. The major thing though, as is with any device with proprietary hardware, DEVICE DRIVERS get updated by the manufacturer. PPC's aren't like normal PC's in the sense that we cannot just go to the manufacturers website for different hardware components and download up-to-date device drivers. Its a pick-fest between the carriers when a ROM is released to compile the best/newest drivers from each ROM into one fast stable build with the best components from each device. Sprint throws out a new ROM, device drivers may have matured a bit, and we may see overall stability increases because of it.

In any case... its fun to have something to wish for/hope for. Like many times before though, nobody should hold their breath on this one - you may turn blue before Sprint delivers the Yellow. ;)

eXplicit 02-13-2008 09:08 PM

I like the way this sounds. But, on the other hand........... We have been waiting an awful long time. Top things I want to see:

*Threaded SMS
*Picture messaging
*Sprint TV
*100% Guaranteed Rev A
*100% Guaranteed GPS
*Windows Mobile 6.1
*Faster Performance

What percentage of this do you think we'll get? Cause I mean, the new ROM version is up to 3.xx now. They only did minor updates with 2.xx. What's everyone's thoughts?

EtherealRemnant 02-13-2008 09:39 PM

I just want to see EVDO stop dropping on the new radio, that's all I care about. Everything else I will rely on no2chem and DCD for.

The difference between WM6 and WM6.1 in terms of memory management and performance was enough to drag me back from the Touch permanently and that's really saying something.

But the fact remains that there are show-stopper issues with the current radio. Data disconnects are COMPLETELY unacceptable.

cornhuskxr 02-13-2008 09:39 PM

](*,)I wander what will come first the new sprint update or my invite from skyfox for beta testing. I've kinda been thinking that they both will be beat by the date I asked from the hot chick in high school that told me "when hell freezes over"

[sammich] 02-13-2008 10:01 PM

I'm definitely excited, but I'm not keeping my hopes up... T-minus 36 hours... and counting

Not unless they use a Windows Mobile 6.1 core which I highly doubt since the beta was WinMo 6

Ummm... that depends on your area and coverage.. no way to guarantee Rev.A

Not sure what you expect here.. it won't work in a tunnel or under a densely leafed tree.

Doubtful... Sprint loves to load crap on their OEM ROM's which eat up memory.

nikkibee521 02-13-2008 10:19 PM

hm, I'm going to be hopefull that it comes out friday. something to look forward to possibly. I'm not holding my breath though. If anything, it's a good starting point to be modified, right?

I want to see picture messaging, gps, and radio. oh, tv would be nice too. but my battery dies all the time, so I probably wouldn't use it much.

As for speed, and, I agree, "Doubtful... Sprint loves to load crap on their OEM ROM's which eat up memory." definitely!!

anyway, *crosses fingers* for new version! I'm tired of mine not working properly.

donnatn 02-13-2008 10:28 PM

I hope it is this Friday. I am sooooo tired of waiting plus I can stay up all night on Friday to install the new ROM and software.

Please let it be true. I am sick of looking every single day...twice even...

Donna

itsall_cooool 02-13-2008 11:32 PM

yeah, I too believe this is the last for the Mogul, almost 9 months out of the box, 4 or 5 or 6 Rom updates...... maybe by summer Sprint will release a REAL PPC phone with memory, MMS, bigger screen, and OF COURSE a keyboard... at this point I'd pay well for one, the fun of working around Sprints intentional crippling of this device has just about worn off

*= nearly equates to the 800w, minus the bigger sceen. I'd kill for a 128RAM VGA 500+mHz monster but I'm asking too much for CDMA.

Honestly I wouldn't mind if it equates to near-perfect in-call Bluetooth & stablility...I can live without WM6.1...

msrecinto666 02-14-2008 01:47 AM

htc said they have no clue

i just got off the phone with htc technical support and they said that they dont even have a clue when it will even be done or if it is even done and that sprint hasnt updated them with anything yet . lets just hope it actually comes out on the 15th :disgust:

hempy 02-14-2008 02:30 AM

Continued CS requests/questions (to both Sprint/HTC) may squeeze a little more anticipation out of this.

answerman 02-14-2008 03:44 AM

All I want to see is a less buggy radio than 3.27. DCD's ROMs are already better than anything Sprint will release.

Just want to get the upgrade, extract the radio, and see if that solves things :-)

txn88 02-14-2008 04:55 AM

gps??

I just sent a nasty email to CS that I'm being charged 4 bucks for something called Sprint Nav.

Ahh, I don't have GPS on the Vouge... what navigation are they talking about?

Could this be part of the new release?
