PPC6800 Alltel Users ROM 3.16.651.0 Post Here

Hello, I am wondering just how many Alltel PPC6800 owners have been successful in updating their phones. There are quite a few Sprint success stories but only a hand full of Alltel ones. In my case I am having an error that states Error [294]: INVALID "VENDER" ID. I am attempting this on a new phone right out of the box and followed several of the threads explaining how to do this properly. I have searched every thread and nothing has turned up on my issue. Thanks.

Phone Information
Software Version 2.14.671.3
PRI Version 1.32_011
PRL ID 30029

I successfully flashed the bootloader, new radio, and new rom. After I tried DCD's version I flashed GnatGoSplat's version which is the new rom stripped of sprint stuff and put all the alltel things back in. I had no problems, didn't need to input any data back into the phone. The GPS works great and all the other functions seem to work fine.

I updated to DCD's version and had success as well. The one issue i'm hoping you can let me know about is MMS. Can you send and receive with this rom? Thanks!

Foreverunstopable,

I am not sure what tools you are using or when you get the errors. But you need (3) things:

1. A program called HARD-SPL-MFG.exe

2. Radio 3.27.00

3. A 3.16 rom ( I recommend either Dcd's 2.2.1 or no2chem's 2.0 build 5042. I have tested and highly recommend either)

4. RUU (Rom Update Utility)

Makes sure you have a actice activesync connection and that your device is NOT synchronizing while you attempt to flash. Run HARD-SPL-MFG and follow the instructions exactly as instructed.

1. Run the HARD-SPL-MFG.exe file. It will automatically load up and all you have to do is follow the on-screen instructions. Do NOT disconnect your USB after you see the finished screen. While still pluged into USB you should see tri-colored bars and "RUUNBH" in the top right corner. If you do on to the next step...

2. Place the rom.nbh file of your choice in the RUU folder or run the self-extractor (like Dcd's). Now click on the RUU application. The rom will now install onto your device. When it has finished, disconnect and soft reset.

3. Repeating the first step, now install the radio rom the same way after running HARD-SPL-MFG. This time take the rom .bh file out of the RUU folder and replace with the radio.nbh. Run the RUU and soft reset when it finishes.

4. You should now have a working rom & radio that enables GPS & Rev. A

Here is what I experienced...

For all of the below, this was the same no matter what rom I had:

I COULD send & recieve text messages.
I could NOT recieve any picture messages
I could NOT send & recieve video messages

On no2chems build 5038/5040 built-in MMS and addition of Arcsoft 3.0.26.12c .cab, I could send picture messages.

On no2chems build 5042, there is no Picture/Video (MMS) feature at all; only text/email messaging.

On Dcd's 2.2.1 I built-in MMS and addition of Arcsoft 3.0.26.12c .cab, I could send picture messages messages.

As it has been discussed it seems the server system arrangment for smart devices on Alltel's (and other carriers I believe) to recieve/send picture & video messaging to another phone/smart device is readily not available. Why I do not know since a simple clam style phone can send & recieve those crappy pictures (taken with that 1.3 MP camera) all day to/from anywhere. Of all the things our 6800's can do (Wifi, GPS, Email, T.V. remote, video recorder, FM radio) we cannot send a simple picture...

I have been happily using the gps on my Alltel 6800 for about 2 weeks. Seems a wee bit slower but that is probably just all the crap in my rom.

X, I fixed the registry on my computer then rebooted. Ran HARD-SPL, worked. Ran DcD's and that loaded as well. Did the soft reboot, now the phone is frozen at the Alltel load screen. I'm going to start over and try it with no2chems and see if that works.
