Re: New Remote Desktop client from WM6.1???
How do I setup RDC on a XP Home machine? I am connecting through a router with a static IP I believe.

Re: New Remote Desktop client from WM6.1???
I had set it static at one time, but no longer. I say static now because I've run ipconfig several times over the last few days and it's always been the same 192.168.x.x

Re: New Remote Desktop client from WM6.1???
Most routers keep a list of mac addressed connected in the past to ensure the same pc will get the same ip but after a certain period of inactivity, the mac is purged from the router and the IP is reassigned to the next device to connect to it.
If its critical you have access to your server, static is the way to go. Saves you the headache of having to reopen all your ports for RDC, BT, Games, Etc. I have a static internal ip set and I use no-ip for the external dns as my provider changes my external ip every few days-weeks. |

Re: New Remote Desktop client from WM6.1???
XP Home and Vista Home Premium have no support for RDP. Only XP Professional, and Vista Business/Ultimate support it (not counting server OSes). So those of you on the Home OSes are out of luck anyway, unfortunately.
If you happen to upgrade, though, then I recommend NO-IP as noted by Darkflame. They even have a pretty good tutorial on their site on how to get it working. As for the router and your internal IP, just because it's remained the same for a while doesn't mean it's static. You'll need to go into your network settings and assign a specific IP address, otherwise when you restart your computer you may get a completely different address. You'll also need to have your router forward port 3389 to that IP address. |

Re: New Remote Desktop client from WM6.1???
I believe there is a hack you can do to Vista Home Premium to unlock the capability....
It actally has the code----MS shut it off for some reason.....go figure.... I also believe there is a youTube movie on how to set it up on WM 6.0---seemed fairly straight forward----can'tbe that different for 6.1 Either set your PC with a Static IP----or have your router "Reserve" a specific IP Then you have to set Port forwarding up in the router to forward port 3389 to that static IP. When you try to find the computer----you have to use the IP that your router reports to the outside world----not the static IP----RDP traffic which comes in on Port 3389----will get auto forwarded to the correct PC. When I have a chance----I want to get this working on my Mogul as well so I'll try to contribute if I get er done..... |

Re: New Remote Desktop client from WM6.1???
Got er done....
Works fine but unlike the Diamond----it wont put a full version of the screen of the PC on the Mogul----you have to drag around a little box..... The "Full Screen" option gives you a LITTLE more screen---but you still have the box.... I just set my router's IP in the first box that's called "Computer Name" and connected-----leave all the other boxes in the WM6.1 RDP Client completely empty-------you will then actully tap the PC and get to the login screen on your remote PC-------then type in your PC password on the pc itself using the keypad or the stylus----once done----told me I was now logged in as WINDOWSMOBILE76 I could not get it to auto connect with the information all typed in the available boxes in the PPC RDP client. I had to connect first to the PC----then type a password on the PC using my Mogul's keyboard. Again----all I set was the Router's IP address to the outside world which you get off the Router's configuration pages----then hit "Connect" And it worked just fine..... I was not using wifi and the speed using a poor EVDO Rev A data connection (1 bar) from my garage was not bad at all..... You could make this work----in a pinch----not as elegant as the 640 x 480 RDP with the Diamond.....but acceptable. You could tap your home machine----and make it do things from ANYWHERE. Remember----you have to Port Forward on your router to the machine you want to remote control (Port 3389) and you need to set a static or reserved IP address for that PC Last edited by johnrr6; 01-29-2009 at 12:25 AM. |

Re: New Remote Desktop client from WM6.1???
I was just getting ready to ask about a program like this. Its crazy that Apple has all types of remote apps like Mobile Me and etc... that allow RDC . It should be pretty straight forward for MS. That should have been one of the main updates in WM6.1. Its just sad.
