new rom, no phone as modem option?

i have the new rom installed but i go to connections and there is no PHONE AS MODEM option. When i try to make one, it says that one already exist but i am not able to see it, only SPRINT connection. When i use a WMWifiRouter it connects in PHONE AS MODEM, not SPRINT. Where can i configure PHONE AS MODEM? it is not in connections. Any help is welcome. thanks

Technically, the Phone as Modem option is absolutely no different than the Sprint PCS option. They are just two identical connections that have different names, as they both dial 777 and pass the same information across. You could try to rename your connection if you think that might help. I have both when I go to the Internet sharing app...what does yours say?

I'll try to repeat what kmart said, ignore the fact that phone as modem is gone, just use sprint, they work identically.

With 3.16 I also no longer have a PAM account listed in connections. HOWEVER, clearly there is *something* hanging around in the ROM that makes WM think that it is there, or it is there and has somehow been "hidden". Prior to flashing 3.16 I had tweaked my system for tethering and had eliminated the PAM connection. I use Fring (mobile IM client) and when it loads it presents a list of available connections, both wifi and power vision. Under my old ROM I was only presented with "Sprint PCS" and "wifi" as the available connections. Now, under 3.16, when I go into connections there is no PAM account listed, but when I load Fring it presents me with "Sprint", "Phone as Modem" and "wifi" as the available connections to utilize.

I have to wonder if the official 3.x ROM, whenever it may arrive, is going to have something in place to try and break the current tethering workaround, and if this might perhaps be a precursor. For example, maybe Sprint will bury some "hidden" PAM account settings in the registry, and add some software that first connects via the phone to validate your PAM status on your Sprint account, and then it "loads" or "unhides" the PAM settings on demand whenever you attempt to tether... dunno, but I wonder.

No matter. I'm no genius, but there are enough folks here who are that if Sprint builds a better mousetrap, someone else will find a better way to escape from it...

One thing to think about too, the RADIO is what gave us the GPS and RevA. If they do put in some way to cripple the tethering, we'll just make a custom ROM with the appropriate radio and they can punish their employees with a crippled phone instead of us

Re: new rom, no phone as modem option?

Yeah, a Sprint employee was trying to sell me on the Touch, and I said I wanted to unlock the GPS, and he said to come here to find out how.

So some employees to know about the site at least.
