Since the days of the CDMA Touch Diamond, vast improvements in mobile WiFi chipsets have reached our devices(read: power savings). Yet I cannot help but think you are better off with plain-jane 3G data instead of WiFi. Anybody else? My Epic performs better with the fewest radios turned 'on' and for me that means WiFi 'off'.

Coz - can you explain why you think there's an advantage to WiFi on?

I can anticipate one scenario: When your Epic struggles to pull in a distant 3G signal but can easily report full signal strength of a nearby WiFi AP.

Ideas? Thoughts?

Re: 'Bout Time to Recharge My Phone

By Wi-Fi do you mean 4G? I don't consider 4G as Wi-Fi. I use Wi-Fi through a wireless router at work, at home, and any other place. It is much faster than 3G. I don't use 4G a lot, but when I do, it is much faster than 3G, IF I can get and stay connected to the Sprint network.

Re: 'Bout Time to Recharge My Phone

I believe that with Wi-Fi (not 4G), that my phone is not working as hard to stay connected. Trying to maintain a 3G connection, especially a weak one, uses more battery than Wi-Fi.

Also, I don't need a stinkin' flip phone...sheesh. Just because I'm not continuously syncing my background data does not mean I'm not using my phone to its fullest potential. Sadly, part of using a smartphone is tweaking it to increase Holy Trio: Speed, Battery Life, and Stability.

I have crappy 3G service at work so I've set JD to only turn on my 3G radio once an hour...that allows my emails, etc. to come through without issue.

late,
Coz
