WIFI secured by WEP?

I set up a wifi network at home and phone has always been able to connect to but the wifi has always been open not protected with any password or any other type so today i decided to atleast secure it with WEP 128bit encryption but now when i make my phone scan for wifi networks available it brings up my network but it wont connect it
First it scans then it says obtaining IP address then after a while it says disabled protected by web. Since my network was already in the phones memory as available i erased it and had it rescan it brought it up hit connect add it the password but it only goes as far as Obtaining IP address

Using ACS Syndicate ROM 1.1.0

Re: WIFI secured by WEP?

WPA2 encryption is the most secure one atm...

as for prot scanning..ok one they breached the network in w\e way..dhcp assigns an ip address..usually 198.162.x.x..all the usually have to do is send a packet to all the possible ips in that range..whichever one gets hit by the packet they know a host is there an they can exploit it...

Re: WIFI secured by WEP?

Whether or not you NEED that much security is a different question..its up to you really..I mean you told me you dont want to use static IP because you feel its less secure..so I responded by telling you WEP isnt really that secure..

it would take 1min-10min to crack with a pc..so think of WEP as protection against ppl stealing your network..not really people...

I mean give me a few hours id break into your WEP network with my TP2 :/

Highest is WPA2

Make sure that all of your OTHER wireless connected devices support WPA2 before flipping the switch. My kids DSi only supports WPA, not WPA2 last time I looked and laptop drivers aren't always updated if some odd ball brand. I have to plug in a second WAP from time to time if she wants to go online with it. I might even have a wireless card or 2 that doesn't support WPA2, but I took them out of circulation so no biggie for me, but your mileage may vary.
