Can someone please post a ext4-format-nojournal-1.1.zip i been looking for it everywhere. Not exactly sure which ones to use but i want to try for experimental purposes. Running 2.9 right now so far it looks good but i keep looking for a reason to flash this no journaling mod and i can't seem to find one except where i read that it will preserve the life of your phone at the cost of some data loss... now my question is how much data loss are we talking about?

I just recently installed MyBackup and I agree that it is better than Titanium.

If you are the kind of person who upgrades your phone every couple of years, I wouldn't worry about the decreased memory life issue from EXT4. Your Epic will still last at least the two years you have to wait for the next upgrade. Besides, by then you will probably be chomping at the bit to get whatever the newest, fastest phone is out there that makes the Epic look like a pocket calculator. As far as data loss goes, the risk is very low and has mostly to do with pulling the battery or your battery dying while you are in the middle of doing something.

I'll have to look for it. When EXT4 first came out I was reading everything I could find on it. If I remember correctly there was a big discussion about it on xda, but I was reading from several different places. I'll see if I can find a link....

Thanks i also noticed the magic smoke live wallpaper no longer included in this new version. How do i get it back? I downloaded the apk from xda and tried to push file in the system/app folder via root explorer. Then i went to homescreen tap hold live wallpaper picker and saw it there... but when i go to it then force closed on me. Any ideas?

Edit : but im really digging the non live wallpaper that came with this new v 2.9 i mean it's alright.. but i don't know how to save it to my gallery in case i want to revert back to it. Anyway here's a screen shot of magic smoke live wallpaper from the older version midnight rom...

Here are a couple of the sources I found for this:

[KERNEL] CM6 EXT4/RFS Dual FS Kernel | Updated for pb15.1+ - Page 3 - xda-developers
(the conversations starts talking about EXT4 and NAND lifespan on post 21)

And the story that talks about the fact that data loss is nothing to worry about short of pulling the battery is here:

Ext4 filesystem hits Android, no need to fear data loss

I also remember ptfdmedic talking about it somewhere here. I'll PM him and see if I can get some clarification (he's got his hands full these days so he probably won't respond for a few days).

Corrupted a 2GB last week and I had a 8GB that was corrupted a few months back on a Samsung Moment with critical files I needed to recover. Heed the warning if you have important files back up SD cards regularly. Free programs will ONLY pull pictures. I got everything off both cards but it wasn't from a free recovery program..

I used ZAR it literally got 99% of my files and the original file structure

I got the no journaling mod from the Bonsai thread on XDA [ROM]Bonsai4All EXT4/RFS/Clockworks 3.0.0.5 support V1.1.4 >01/12/2011< - xda-developers . If you flash the mod you will have to re-flash mid2.9 over it. And it has to be flashed from CWM 2.5. Check out post 2.

Everything Johnny said is what I read to. The chances of data loss should be small and if any is lost it should be a small amount.

I can get no journaling and mid2.9 fine, but themes are not flashing good. I always let the rom boot before trying the theme and it just flashes partial or boot loops. Any ideas?
