Re: midNIGHT ROM v2.6 CW3 Friendly and EXT4 Support 1/5/11

I flashed your Rom today I must it is solid but when my battery ran out I lost all of my information please. Is this a Samsung thing or a custom rom issue. On my touch pro 2 when my battery dead my phone still backed up all of my information. I mean my phone is just like it had a fresh install. You can see this can be frustrating and time customing if this happens often. Do you think you can work on a fix for this problem? Thank you for all of your time and heart. Other wise this is a great ROM.

Re: midNIGHT ROM v2.6 CW3 Friendly and EXT4 Support 1/5/11

i forgot my phone at home today on my bed. 8hrs later i came home from work and it was completly dead. everything was saved. the battery is way off though. i plugged it in to charge it. it said it was at 49%. i charged it for about 1hr half. then i was talking on the phone for about 2hrs. when the low battery chime came on i pluged it back in and still died. i restarted it. everything was saved but again it said it was at 49% right away.

something wrong with the battery indicator.

++1,
I also confirm this issue!
I just had the same thing happen last night. After completely setting up the whole system for a couple hours, I figured I would let the battery die completely so I would get the most accurate battery calibration after a full recharge, but guess what. After I plugged it back in I booted up into nothing but corrupted data and all FC's! Completely hosed the entire system.
I am leaning towards the theory that Ext4 is to blame rather than the rom due to the fact that Ext4 gets its speed from delaying the 2nd write(backup write) to the blocks that is needed in case of a power failure just like this. I think I will be avoiding the EXT4 file system due to this issue untill it is known to be stable.
A dead battery on devices like the Epic is definitely not uncommon and is not (imo) a fair tradeoff for the extra %15 increase in speed. I may be wrong about this theory, so dont flame me. Just makes sense from everything I have read about EXT4.

Time to talk to Mr. Odin.

Ps to OP: I love the rom and will stick with the RSF version. Im not sure that ditching the RSF versions completely is going to be a wise decision. Thank-you for the hard work on your roms and good luck with your family!!!

Thanks for the feedback. Unfortunately I cannot reproduce this problem ans this is the first I'm hearing about it. This has been download over 600 times and I haven't heard of anyone else having a similar issue. I get why you would think it was EXT4 related but if it was something bigger then an isolated glitch I would think I would hear about it by now. From the sounds of it you should also reproduce this by abruptly pulling the battery.....

Hmm, yea you may be right about that because I did just pull the battery with several programs running and it booted up just fine, which I guess would eliminate that theory, so I dont know. If you have the chance to let the battery completely die, give it a test. Ill experiment also and post back too. Thanks!
But hey, no biggie. I wont ditch EXT4 quite yet just because of 1 instance. Ill give it another go and see what happens.

That was the first thing that I thought of. I pulled my battery and it booted up just fine. But to be fair I am going to let my battery die today and see what happens.

Thank you so very much. I would like to research the AOSP Email App a bit before I install. I'm wondering whether you have a link to its development. Thanks!
