WTB: 10" Tablet, NO iPADs!

been looking for a 10" tab, missed out on the Touchpads. Looking to spend around $200, not sure how far that will get me, but we'll see.

prefer wifi only, android...

Actually I have a Barnes and Noble Nook Color collecting dust I can do for $180 shipped. Its not 10 inches but its good enough

probably surfing for the most part, but I'm sure it will be much more....I havent really shopped around much, been keeping an eye on a decent price touchpad & just started looking for a Xoom.

The Viewsonic gTablet retails for around that price..and has a dual core tegra 2...But its LCD is sub par and ViewSonic doesn't reall update it much..all the updating is done by the community and its kinda a love and hate relation lol..read up about it if you want..

I'm not too worried about the update support...I mean if I got a Touchpad it would be only to put Android on it.

speaking of, what's your opinion of the Touchpad?....there's a guy on CL selling a 32gb for $240

for the right price, I suppose I'd rather have a tab that came w/ android.

I didn't get it yet :/..remember HP said it will be 6-8 weeks for business people..so I should get it around 1st or 2nd week of october..then I can do a comparison with my viewsonic gtablet lol..I am not in a hurry to get the HP TouchPad yet though since the Android port isn't fully ready yet and by then I am hoping it will be.

As for the viewsonic, it comes default with Froyo 2.2 with Tap'n'Tap UI (the horror)..but I loaded up Honeycomb on it..the biggest issue with it is lack of proper nvidia drivers..but I am hearing the Adam is getting official ICS and that the gTablet is similar to the Adam so we may get a port from there...hopefully..

It seems Amazon may be offering their new Android tablet this week (Wednesday?). Some speculate 7", 9" and/or 10" at a $250 price point. I would keep an eye out for it!

I had an Archos 10.1 it was ok I guess, pleanty cheap but it had a few issues. The new version should be out now with honeycomb.

Hello there Gten and OMJ.

I have both viewsonic and a tp so I will give you pros and cons on both.

Viewsonic is fun little machine when it works.

Company denies it's existence and won't help devs in any way and won't offer any support. Won't release any drivers even though they will say after market roms wil enhance the performance of the tablet. It comes broken straight outside the box actually. LCD is ok but has a horrible viewing angle. Easily over clock-able and there are alot of roms out for it to tickle your fancy. (although it has diminished quite a bit last couple of months)

After trying everything, I just run froyo for both software & hardware acceleration. (OCed to 1.5ghz)
Hard time playing big videos btw.


Touchpad

1.2 ghz dual core is under-clocked for battery consumption. (so i heard..)
I have mine oced at 1.5 ghz and it's noticeably faster without much difference to the battery. All the basic things that it's supposed to, it does very well.
It's bit heavy but it's packed with features.
I'm a big fan of android OS and was waiting for it to come to TP but at this moment, I don't really care. Web OS is surprisingly nice.
