nice work

Wideawake, I guess all the hard work you did last night and this morning has paid off. Maybe the spammers will get a life, if that's what caused it all!

Definitely better. But I still find a lag when posting...

This whole issue about de-fragmenting the database, I think this is what TreoCentral does every night at 3am--the site goes down for about 15 mins and I bet it's to do this kind of maintenance, (then again I know nothing of this stuff).

Out of curiosity, what "system" does TreoCentral use? I find it the most friendly for searching and using, plus it seems quite fast (I need "Search this thread" and "Search Members" as features! )

Many large forums run VBulletin instead of phpBB due to its superior database architecture and mad admin controls. phpBB is also free, a license for Vbb could run you $200, IIRC.

VBulletin is superior to PHPBB because its been around longer, and has more developer support. It also has a built-in archiving system (similar to the prune feature in phpBB but archives the posts to static HTML pages)...but as I pointed out earlier it costs money. Also should be run from a dedicated server.

I also notice a huge speed increase in browsing the forums. Haven't gotten a single error.

Great info! Well, if that is the case then I can hope someday we migrate to that system...

I find myself using it more than here sometimes

If it means keeping mala, we need to go to vb

Truthfully I find it much better also, and would donate towards the cost if it meant this site could move to it. However, I realize there are other considerations (sounds like it needs dedicated hosting, etc.).

But the search functions alone make vb the best.
