No they don't. I figured if it counts as a post that it might get abused just to increase post count, plus this way there's no issues with newbs using it.

I had to work hard for my ability to say thanks!!! lol...and now the people who sign up today can already say thanks. I wish it happened before because i know for a fact i've helped some noobs that are noobier than me with some things but they couldnt say thanks becuz they had 10-15 posts.
