Quicker GPS fix?

Did search but I cant find how to get my unlocked Omnia to get a faster fix on sats. I use google maps, set the com and speed as suggested. Does the HTC quick GPS patched from Adrynalen work?

Do you have the CF03 Official Verizon ROM? This uses an aGPS system that will get a prelim lock before the satellites lock.

I dont know for sure but it does seem to get that prelim triagulated lock. It puts me like within 4000 meters but even then it takes like 5 to 10 minutes to lock in. (after the initial lock in)

Re: Quicker GPS fix?

The CGPS Titanium panel works great, too. Turn it on, and it gets a lock every five minutes. If I know I will be using my GPS, I just turn it on ahead of time and then when I open Google Maps, it locks nearly instantly.

Re: Quicker GPS fix?

I use like, everything and I have had no problems getting locks anymore (and if you had read these forums many months ago, you would see that I was one of the main ones who could never get gps locks). Anyways, Im not sure which out of all these things has helped the most, since I use all of them, but something has helped for sure:

-Gpsgate (had to pay 20 bucks for it, you may want to try all the other things first and leave this as a last resort)
-CGPS Titanium Panel
-Adrynalyn's HTC Quick GPS patched
- GPS Settings cab extracted from Omnia Lite, found here, 5th from the top in the list:

Can I get some sort of clarity. It seems like everyone is using someth patch, .cab or tweak for gps, but it still seems to be a mystery as to how this thing actually works for you.

I am using Evidence's Eyemaster 9.1 ROM. There is a cgps panel on it. When I press the panel it never locks. I am confused. The questions are:

1. Does this panel turn on gps once i click it OR do I have to do another step?

If this does NOT turn it on automatically:

2. What program/app/.cab provides a on-button "on/off' switch. I get tired of having to go through settings/ then phone/ then services/ then 911 or location.

3. Is there such a service that does this.

Again, I know how to hit the search button on this site and I have looked around but everyone is always saying something different. Thanks in advance!

Re: Quicker GPS fix?

To clarify some misunderstandings here throughout this thread...

You only have to go to Phone > Services > GPS > Select Location On > Soft Reset ONCE. After that, the phone is forever free to use the GPS every time an application activates it. Other applications, such as Google Maps, GPS Toggle (not usable on Titanium), and CGPS (Titanium panel) turn on the GPS and search for a lock.

This DOES activate the GPS chip and starts searching for satellites. Once it obtains a lock, it shuts off and then restarts every five minutes in order to maintain what I think is known as "warm lock." This is a compromise between a rapid battery drain due to constant GPS use and having to start from a cold lock when beginning Google Maps or some other GPS-enabled mapping application. This way, when you start Google Maps, or Bing, or GPS Weather Radar Pro, it gets a much faster lock than you would otherwise.

As I mentioned before, you only have to do the phone settings once. CGPS (WinMo 6.5) and GPSToggle (WinMo 6.1 or traditional screen on 6.5) allow a warm lock on the satellites, and is the closest to what you are looking for. There is also a paid service, GPSGate, that I have heard of, but I have not used it.
