Titanium, could someone explain what makes it popular?

Let me be the one to speak up for titanium. I'm ready for ya, bring it on! LOL

Anyhow, lots of people, more than you think, love the plain old today.

Why? because it is plain. Not crowded and gives me a chance to see what it is I need. Old home screen was a mess you needed to use a stylus all the time, wasn't finger friendly.

It's all about elegance and simplicity and control over the home screen

Now, with titanium I got all I need in 7 panels

I can activate my phone with my thumb.
Most important

Phone screen ain't crowded. This is a point a lot of people are missing. KISS is working in this case too. why would I use a skin that ends up taking me to the same place? why would you imitate another phone? another OS?

And, like BW posted, titanium can be changed to different styles

I like Titanium OK. I can get it down to about 5 or 6 key panels, so there's not too much scrolling involved.

I am less enamored some of the new Titanium iterations in some of these ROMs that essentially make you touch an icon to see the info in that panel. I have a phone that has 240x480 resolution; I don't want to waste all that on a background pic and a clock. If I can get info without having to click, all the better.

And the WinMo 6.5.whatever betas leave me wanting. Yeah, the buttons are bigger, but Microsoft is regressing on the UI and utility overall. And many functions are slower. I like to flash, and try new ROMs, but after awhile I need to _use the damn phone_. These post-6.5 betas ultimately end up getting in my way -- no fault of the chefs', the problems are in all the ROMs and must be a Microsoft thing. So I'll probably go back to Adryn's 3.0 this weekend. Or see how the Android port is coming.

I hope no one here is upset about my question. It was an honest one. I was trying to figure out if I was missing something about it. Well BW that version you showed is sweet. I'm going to follow the link and do a little research on it. I was only frustrated with the Titanium that was on most of the ROMs. Scrolling up and down, I wasn't sure which launcher I was on. Then once my brain settled in on an answer I had to scroll sideways to get to the specific app. Like favorite programs or contacts when there are a lot, scrolling a single column seems counter productive.
And I didn't see an option away from the scrolling. I'll check out that new look. Thanks.

As a product designer, I do not like Titanium due to it's dumb layout.
With the vertical swipe interface to go from panel to panel, you're always covering the screen with your thumb and part of your hand. If you like "swipe" UIs, M2D is a much better design as the only part of the screen you're covering is along the bottom edge. Just my opinion, but Titanium is weak at best. M2D is much better but still a little clunky if you need to get to things fast

Although I stay current on all the UIs, I always come back to SPB Mobile Shell. For now, the easiest, get-to-your-stuff-the-fastest interface is the new update to mobile shell, MS3.5. It is configurable enough to get your phone to look however you want and still get you to your info, pics, music, apps, and phone faster than anything else.

Just pony up the license fee and live the Omnia experience the way it was meant to be lived.

Also my opinion, Blazingwolf's latest Black 6.5 rom makes a killer foundation to put MS3.5 on top of. I'm very pleased with it.

i agree. the mobileshell is awesome. i light flick, a slight touch and boom you are into your program to run. i have my center today screen set up naked except for the clock, my right one with apps and programs and left one with messaging and settings. i can flick up or down and be into my pim center.
best $ i spent beyond the phone itself

That pretty much says it for me. I use the same ROM with MS3.5.
