couple noob questions

Hi I'm relatively new to the site and customization of my Omnia. I have been reading the website for the past few days and i find it amazing the things that you guys do to your phones. I tried doing some stuff with little success, i tried searching the website for answers but i could not find anything so i decided to make a new post. Sorry if these questions have been answered in the past.

So i have downloaded CeRegEditor, so i can edit my registry, but i dont no how to add new registries, for example i have downloaded Samsung Today 2, but im not sure how i add this to my phones registry, i have tried dragging and dropping, right clicking, and i was unable to add anything.

My next questions is about roms, but im not 100% sure what they are, are they a type of OS or something? I have red that Adrynalyne makes the best roms, but i dont no how to install them onto my Omnia.

Thanks for any help as it will be greatly appreciated, and sorry for the noob questions, which im sure have been asked before.

Re: couple noob questions

Does everyone new here want "ROM on silver platter"???
Just like the frantic kid on that frantic post, you need to slow down the pace of "doing" and spend a LOT more time reading. There are a LOT of answers to the questions you ask, but it takes a forum full of threads to answer. That is the investment you need to make. Yes, wouldn't it be nice to send your phone off to one of the wizards and get it back next-day-express all flashed with shiny new ROM. That takes the fun of it away. Plus your dreaming. Not going to happen. You gotta do it the way everyone else did it. Read, read, read.

Re: couple noob questions

That is a good point. i dont even know where to start with what you want. It would take about a whole page to read. you got to do some research. Start by reading about when the cc20 rom cam out and than go to some of thos 6.5 rom threads and than do the same for the updated cf03. Good luck. If your like any of us on here you will enjoy it.

Re: couple noob questions

I use total commander to edit the registry, just copy and paste reg edits that you download.

Re: couple noob questions

You can also create reg entries on your computer, transfer them to your phone and import them using CeRegEditor. I don't know what issues you are having when creating new entries, but make sure you check to make sure that the registry is not locked. In CeRegEditor go to Tools-> Unlock registry

As far as flashing, I agree with everyone else. Read, read and then read again.

You can start with [ROM] [WM6.5] blazingwolf Rock and Republic build 23004 v10 under the Omnia Upgrades section. Read the first part of this thread. It has very important information in it. Once you do that, you can search for the files that you need, like the UMDL program for flashing.

Wirelessly posted (Omnia1: Opera/9.5 (Microsoft Windows; Windows CE; Opera Mobi/9.5; U; en) VZW:SCH-i910 PPC 240x400)

a rom can be as simple as a dialer or a complete redo of your phone
verizon put out a newer rom for the Omnia but I understood it by it being called a firmware update. then youve got kitchens and cooking
i would suggest also looking at wikopedia or similar to get more familiar with the languages associated with tweaking your phone for personalization maximum

FWIW, you can do amazing things with your Omnia and never have to touch the registry. Check out SPB Mobile Shell:

...and then over at xda developers....

...and then there's s2U2...

....and there's lots more. Good luck!
