Samsung App Store

Surprised no one has posted this. Maybe some of our over sea ppcgeeks can help us out with some of the (freeware, no warez) apps while we wait for our sites to be active.

Re: Samsung App Store

I have the i910. i love it. I have to make this clear before I gt into my post.

Why is Apple the only forward-thinking cell phone maker? We all have been waiting for Samsung to open the online store. The Omnia has been out for more than a year. This is their best offering?!?!?

Before I get the "they just started", "give them time" retorts. Think about it. If it were not for forums like this hard core users would be beyond frustrated with trying to tweak the phone and find applications to maximixe the experience. Thier proprietary TouchWiz feature still has no new widgets - except for what came out in the ROM update? the store lists products that we could easily find on our own (Resco). Wheere is the innovation? And to boot it is for the overseas market.

Samsung entrance into the app site game leaves me with a "WhAt?!?!"" factor not a "Wow".

Re: Samsung App Store

Don't forget, Verizon also has their own "appstore" of sorts and they've been running the Get it Now service for at least 5 years now (other cellphone carriers have also had similar services). I believe the iPhone App Store succeeded because they only had two product lines to focus on and it is so tightly integrated both on the device itself and on the PC. I don't like how it's the only legitimate choice for more applications but no one will deny that the ecosystem works well and is easy to use. None of the other phone platforms have had such a tight integration with a desktop app, which in the case of iTunes, is the central gateway for everything you can do to the phone.
Samsung's app store is just another way to differentiate themselves in the app store market, but I don't think Verizon would have allowed it anyway just as they are planning to pre-install their own service and are blocking the other stores (like the forthcoming Windows Marketplace).
As long as we get something good, I don't really care how long it takes as I've got more than enough of a selection to tide me over, even if it isn't in one centralized location the way I'd like.

Re: Samsung App Store

The get it now store is worthless for us since the Omnia cant access it, and the vz app store has what, 10 apps total?? I have to agree 100 percent with Steve Austin. Its just sad

Re: Samsung App Store

The problem is that the Windows Marketplace isn't up and running yet. Microsoft is waiting for the official WM6.5 launch (next month), then we'll have an App Store more like Apple's. Don't blame Samsung or even Verizon.
