WiFi Question

Hey guys, I don't have that much experience when it comes to wifi so I thought I'd throw this out there to see if anyone may be able to lend a hand.

My niece just got me an xbox 360 and the silly thing doesn't come with wifi capabilities! (go go ps3!) I was wondering if I could use my phones wifi signal it picks up from my router to supply it to the xbox. I know I have a wifi adapter laying around here somewhere but I can't find it. I apologize in advance if a similar question has been posted in the past, I looked around the Omnia forums a bit and saw some threads about wifi tethering but I'll be honest, I don't really know what that means. Thanks a bunch for any help ya'll can offer!

Re: WiFi Question

Why use the phone? Is the router wireless? If so, how is using the phone any different than using the router? Is there are LAN cable connection on the Xbox? If so, connect the Xbox to the router with a cable, if not, I'm pretty sure they sell a Wi-fi adapter for the Xbox.

Using the phone to supply your Xbox, when you already have a router with an internet connection is like towing around a Toyota Corolla with a Ferarri.

Just my 2 cents.

Re: WiFi Question

I just use my laptop to provide internet to my xbox. The xbox comes with the cable you need, and my brother helped me change some settings on my laptop to make the connection, and now anytime I want to go online with my xbox I just hook up my laptop to the cable (which I keep plugged in to my xbox already).

This is pure speculation, but Im thinking using the internet through the phone wont be fast enough to deal with playing two player games and stuff.

They do, but its 100 bucks. Way too expensive, IMO.

Re: WiFi Question

....and not to start an Xbox vs PS3 war, ... but this is one of the reasons the PS3 is more expensive. With all the 360 add-ons that are extra...it's pretty much the same price if not cheaper now (PS3 slim) for a PS3 that already has it all.

my 2 cents

Good point. I did like the fact that since Im an impulse spender and live paycheck by paycheck, I could just buy the xbox first, then when I had more money buy the hard drive, then if I wanted to later on buy the wireless adapter ,etc.. That's just me though, I live way out of my means lol
