Multitouch is cool especially for certain applications (e.g. a piano, but Omniano is still good enough without it!) but really nothing too groundbreaking. Double tapping and sidebar scrolling works great in Opera and besides, how are you supposed to multi-touch with one hand? I think it would look just a little silly having to manipulate a touch screen with both hands just to zoom.
From what I can tell, Wisbar is a task manager application that looks very similar to the free WKTask.

and a note about sensitivity - the iPhone/touch screen is very smooth and effortless to use, but most of the time I'd rather have the resistive screen that occasionally requires an extra tap compared to the hyper-resistive capacitive screen, on which I always find myself making accidental taps. Case in point, there is a disclaimer link at the bottom of the App Store that I always manage to hit when scrolling down. That pops up a new Safari window and closes out the store, because of course, it has no multitasking. Seriously, that's one of the biggest advantages of the Omnia over the Apples for me.

Re: Going back to iPod Touch?

I thought about getting the iPhone, but you cannot change anything on it. Even if you unlock the iPhone, you cannot manipulate it like you can the Omnia. Get programs like Skyfire to watch any flash online. The Omnia's options are endless! But be careful! You flash once and YOU WILL GET HOOKED!!!

Thing is, you HAVE to jailbreak your iPhone to do what any WinMo phone can do out of the box, like change your home screen to something other than the monotonous program icons. And yes, once you flash, there's no going back!

Wrong. I've played with the iPhone many times, and that's how I make that statement. I'm not talking gaming here, I'm talking being productive or at least being "serious" with the phone. "Reverse pinching" to zoom in? Pointless. Pinching to zoom out? Pointless. Yes, playing an NES emulator and actually being able press several buttons at once is great, but other than stuff like that, from what I've seen at least (and *used*), it's a pointless feature.

i agree with u man... the only time i feel the need for multi touch would be a game or emulator... i have never said to myself "i wish i had multi-touch"

Re: Going back to iPod Touch?

You know I spent a few hours today putting Wisbar back on my Omnia with the iPhone theme software - took about an hour to configure the way I want. I will tell you that the sp lock software interferes with several other programs and I'm probably going to remove.

The issue actually seems to be the other software - for instance the mail application on the iPod touch is so easier to use - to view - to manipulate. The settings software is seemless - probably because the software was designed to work with the OS system - which isn't the case with the Omnia. I still haven't unlocked and upgraded ROM - and maybe that's my problem. I am a tekkie - but every time I dive into a Rom thread and face the hundreds and hundreds of "oh my god what did I do wrong" posts I talk myself into waiting for the Verizon release (maybe totally pointless I know).

Here's an interesting observation though -- when you look on the theme posts and threads on the various Omnia forums there's always the inevitable series of posts that will turn the Omnia into an iPhone looking device. When you look at the iPhone forums / threads you'll find a bunch of threads advertising themes that will make the iPhone look and a WM6 or a Vista clone. Wierd!

Every native app on the Apple OS is easier to manipulate simply because it was designed with a finger in mind rather than WinMo which was built for the stylus. There are free and paid replacement contact and text message managers too, but the built in ones from WM6.5 ROMs are fine for me. (There is a noticeable difference between 6.1 and 6.5 especially with the scrolling) Another thing is the Samsung Favorite Settings, which isn't an all around settings manager but is great for managing the main functions of the device. Google it.

When you want to flash a new ROM, all you need is the Samsung USB drivers, ROM and the flashing software all available on theidoctor.org/omnia.html then follow the simple instructions. If your computer is stable (ie not prone to crashing/no viruses) and your cable doesn't come unhooked during the flash, there's little to go wrong. The custom ROMs will take you miles away from the stock, believe me and everyone else. Verizon's official update will consist mainly of some bug fixes, unlocked GPS which we have, and some new widgets for the useless Samsung widget bar. It won't be faster or have more space and will still have all of the preloaded crap that you don't want.

I notice the same thing, but all of the iPhone skins for WinMo look terrible and when I see the Windows skins for the iPhone especially in real life, I think to myself "why would you want to do that?"

Re: Going back to iPod Touch?

OK - I'm going to do this today. I have a nice stable system but it runs Vista. Is that a problem? Also - do you have any recommendations on which one of Adrynalyne's Roms to start with? Thanks

OK - I did it! Wasn't too tough to figure out - had to re-do the whole thing because I went into the Chrome editor and removed one too many panes - froze the whole thing up.

Drove me crazy trying to figure out how to change the background - but some good help from this board took care of that.

I really like the change all in all. I'm not too sure how I like Titanium but a bunch of that might come from ignorance in how to use. Haven't tried GPS yet - but my wifi is still screwed up. I'll post a new thread tomorrow with the detail to see if someone can help.

Thanks to everyone for their advice!

Congrats! I'm sure you'll love it. I think Titanium will grow on you after a while, I didn't like it at first then switched to m2d. M2d is nice (looks good, very fast) but it had a couple of issues with my setup so I ditched it. Titanium is (I think) easier to customize anyway and should use less ram. If you haven't got GPS set up yet, all you do is switch location on in the phone settings > services. Google maps should work right out of the box once you install it. Also WiFi can be a little picky, I have the fios actiontec router which has trouble with some devices using wpa2 but when I hook up a linksys access point, it works fine.
