Re: Going back to iPod Touch?
If you haven't already, flash a custom ROM. I didn't want to at first, but it is by far the best thing you can do to your phone. Everything will get better - the increased speed and space on the device memory will allow you to do more and many (if not all) of the custom ROMS have all of the community contributed tweaks and speed ups built in. One specific perk I can think of is they all have Internet Sharing built in unlike the stock software, so you can easily plug in your phone to your laptop and get broadband internet anywhere for no extra cost. And of course, all of the ROMs give you unlocked GPS to use with software like Google Maps. I liked my Omnia when I first got it, but flashing is the first step to making it truly great.
There's loads of software out there for Windows Mobile, but without one official "appstore" it can be hard to find what you want. My essential apps are Pandora, Facebook and YouTube (all official) and those three specifically work great. Another program that isn't actually installed on the device is My Mobiler, which allows you to control your phone using your computer - very convenient! Samsung has an app that's seen in only the overseas GSM models (I think) called Favorite Settings; I have it mapped to my Main Menu button and I can easily change sound/power/display settings, check my exact battery life (you can install a 5% or 1% battery driver for a more precise battery reading), and toggle on/off the Bluetooth/WiFi/phone/flashlight/motion sensor. Finally, SASHIMI is something you don't want to have to use very often, but you use it to set up all of the CABs, registry tweaks and email settings after doing a hard reset or firmware upgrade. Once you set it up for the first time and have to use it, you just launch the program and set it to auto mode. Done! The rest is up to you - in terms of customization apps, home screens, media players, web browsers, remote control apps...there's too many to list. And don't forget, your Omnia is actually able to run two or more of those at once and switch through them seamlessly, no more endless switching to the home screen just to find the app you want. (on another note, I don't know if the iPod touch can run Voice Control with OS 3.0, but you can even launch apps with WinMo's voice commands as well as all of its other functions). All that I've listed above is just scratching the surface. But like I said, you have to flash your ROM, otherwise you'll be really set back in terms of capability and device user-friendliness. Trust me and the hundreds (thousands, maybe?) who have made the switch to a custom ROM. It's easy and makes a world of difference. Any of the info/programs I've mentioned can be found with a forum search, otherwise just post back here if you have any questions or anything else. edit: another thing, the community here at PPCGeeks is very friendly, supportive and filled with knowledgeable members (Adrynalyne and Blazingwolf probably the two biggest names around here), so you won't have any trouble finding help. edit2: WinMo 6 will never be quite as user friendly as the Apple OS, unfortunately, but you can take a few easy steps to increase it. And finding another home screen besides the Samsung Widgets will help too. I don't know when I'm going to run out of things to say! Last edited by nitrous9200; 07-13-2009 at 12:06 AM. |

Re: Going back to iPod Touch?
If you haven't gotten rid of the online widgets menu, then do so now, and switch to "Samsung Today". There's absolutely nothing that the ipod touch can do (aside from the app store) that the Omnia can't do, better. Multitouch? You got me there, but it's a pointless feature that's only used as a gimmick.

Re: Going back to iPod Touch?
It's all about tweaking it to what you prefer. Whether it's 6.5, MS3, M2D, etc.

I love WM as much as anybody (I have 3 WM phones), but I would give anything to add some of the features of my 2nd gen ipod touch screen to my WM systems....... ~John |

I have used it. It's OK but not a must have feature for me. I don't buy things based on a single feature. WM blows the iPhone out of the water in a lot of other ways.
