Google Voice Invites Went Out Yesterday

Some good news, I got my Google Voice invite in last night.
Today, I figured out how to set it as my cell voicemail.

To those using Google Voice, it is simple to set up. You just have to type in *71 followed by your GV number and then hit send. As soon as it connects, you are set up to use GV as your voicemail. To switch back to VZ VM just hit *73 send.

Also, if you use the mobile site www.google.com/voice/m your GV number will call you then call whoever you want. Using the VZ favorites, this can keep minute use to a minimum.

Any questions, or tricks or things you want me to try, just ask.

When you picked your Google Voice number, I guess you specified the area code? Do you just type in the number you want and see if it is available?

When you register, it lets you input your area code, and choose from a list of available numbers.

Going to google.com/voice prompts a sign in screen. There's an apply for invite link at the bottom.

Another note: Since I use google sync, all of my contacts were right there. Pretty nice system so far. I have yet to set up any personalized greetings, though. Also, if you call from your own number, you get right into the GV voicemail system, and can call out from there. Only complaint is that it takes several rings to send a call to VM.

Re: Google Voice Invites Went Out Yesterday

I've been using this for a while now (since it was GrandCentral). Anyway, I like it, I use it for my business number and everything normally goes to voicemail. I love that it transcribes it and sends it to me in an email.

Re: Google Voice Invites Went Out Yesterday

been with since grand central as well. didn't end up using it too much because of ringing all my phones at once didn't work for me. Wife at home, business was answered by receptionist, etc. Am I using it wrong? Seems like a great app. I have the little link to "call me" on my blog and so far no one has used it.
Let me know if I'm missing something, since I have it and Google usually makes cool products, I'm wondering if it's just me.

I've received one wrong number and just some test phone calls and texts that I made to myself... but that's the number I give to potential clients. So far, the only one I get calls on is my actual cell number, because my current clients give that to their friends... oh well, clients is clients.

Re: Google Voice Invites Went Out Yesterday

On a side note you can use "One Dialer" a nice little program for your VGA device that is used with your GV account.

Here is the thread for this program.

I'll second the use of 1-Dialer. It calls your GV, then initiates a call back between your GV and any number you put in.

For me, the transcripted voicemails and access to the VM audio files is what makes it totally worthwhile.
