Re: GPS without data conection
I'm fairly new to the Omnia, but I do know that first you need to determine if it has true GPS or just aGPS. If it's only aGPS, you won't be able to use it without a Verizon signal, regardless of if it's unlocked or not.

Re: GPS without data conection
The Omnia does have true GPS, not just aGPS. You will need to flash it to the leaked CC20 ROM. You can find instructions here on the site.
As far as a free GPS app that would not require a data connection...try Amaze. |

Re: GPS without data conection
Thanks for the reply. I was under the impression that Amaze would not work without a data connection because they pay for the free service with advertising. Can this be verified by someone using Amaze by disabling their data please?

Re: GPS without data conection
Honestly, I think that you are going to have a problem getting a good, turn-by-turn GPS app that is fully self-contained for free (using legitimate means). I know a few free turn-by-turns that use data, but I don't see why a company would completely give something away for free and get nothing in return. If you find something, let me know.

Re: GPS without data conection
I don't nessesarily need a turn by turn program. I just need a map program to show me where I am in CA. I looked into Amaze's map coverage and they don't even have coverage in guatemala. Its the same for all the other programs which I have looked into, Garmin, Tom tOM, ETC..

Re: GPS without data conection
As far as I know there are no free programs to meet what you want.

Re: GPS without data conection
There is a couple programs that are free that give you strait gps on a blank page. What you do is get a jpeg image of the area that you are going to be at and you match up the picture drawing or what ever as a sorta wallpaper that callibrates to the program if i find it out i will post. I had it working but took it of because i did not want to bother with all that.

Re: GPS without data conection
You can have some pretty detailed maps if you look around. I think that would be your best bet.
