Re: Samsung Moment

Not sure if anyone has addressed this issue, but has anyone found a way to re-calibrate the screen? Is this something that we're not going to be able to do until we root our phone? I downloaded the HTC compact QWERTY keyboard and the settings for that have a screen calibration setting within them, but the app force closes upon opening of the calibration.

Re: Samsung Moment

Well, looks like we're skipping to 2.1 along with the Hero. Time to just sit back, be patient, and enjoy the ride. Can't wait to see the look on all the Droid user's faces when we step up to bat.

I don think you can re-calibrate the screens on android phones. The HTC keyboard was made for Windows based phones and from what I know, you only re-calibrate on windows based phones. IDK, I may be wrong but you really don't need to re-calibrate the screen. You did have that option when you first started up the phone and it's not found in any of the settings.

This won't globally re calibrate the screen, but it will allow the htc keyboard to be calibrated.
Search for a file called clicker. apk. Id upload, but I'm not allowed. I actually found two versions of the same file. One worked on the moment, one didn't. I think there's a thread going over at androidforums that has the correct version.

P.s. clicker.apk is not in the market. You'll have to find elsewhere.....

Re: Samsung Moment

I was just having a few problems with the accuracy but it seems to have gotten better now. I would have calibrated it myself when I first got it, but the Sprint girl had never played with one and turned it on without me knowing, then after she'd skipped through all the intro stuff, handed it to me and said, "Here, you probably know more about it then I do." Jee, thanks lady. And found the clicker program but haven't used it since the calibration seems to be better now. Maybe I was just used to redoing it every 3 days or however often it seemed on my WM phone. Thought I'd miss WM, but I was wrong.

Re: Samsung Moment

I've Gone from 1st Generation HTC Touch, to HTC Mogul, to HTC Touch Pro, to HTC Hero- I returned the Hero within 3 days & I am now a VERY satisified owner of Samsung Moment. During the flip phone era- all my phones were Samsung because they were great hardware quality, Never any issue w/ hardware. Now that I've gone from Microsoft to Android I could not be happier. The Samsung Moment is fast, great calibration, user friendly & a good piece of hardware. I'll definately vent if I have any issues with it, but I had to Quote here becuz i agree 1000%. I gotta say that I never thought I'd say this, being an IT geek & all, but Windows is not the "IT" thing in mobility anymore. It looks like Android has moved up & I know Microsoft is running to mimic the apps, even with the apps I dont see Windows OS beating this Vanilla OS. They really had techy people in mind who want speed, functionality, agility, & even sum looks in mind! If your looking at the Hero or Moment- definatley try the Moment- its way faster than the Hero & the touch screen keyboard on the Moment corroborates much better with the variety of angles of your touch. The Moment camera is not a 5.0 like the Hero but hey i'll stick w/ my 3.2 cam & FLASH anyday! Atleast the device does what I want it to do.

Hardware: Solid. Feels solid. It is heavy but I kind of like that. The keyboard will take some getting used to coming from a HTC Touch Pro but I like it nonetheless. I like how it has a dedicated search button. Screen is AH-maze-ing. All I gotta say. It's fast...fast...fast. Some people may not prefer a vanilla OS but I prefer it that way. It works a lot better and you can customize how you want it.

Software: Like I was saying above, I like the vanilla OS. Coming from an HTC Touch Pro, it's like a breathe of fresh air. I'm over the whole looks nice but works like crap thing. Which is what I think the Hero is. It may look cool but I'm looking for functionality and stability when it comes down to it. The sense UI just bogs down the phone which already has a slower processor (on the hero). Most of the time people just disable it anyways. The onscreen keyboard is frustrating but usable. This is THE main reason why I went with the Moment instead of the Hero. The word prediction and auto completion is a nice feature. This feature on the Touch Pro was painful at best. It bogged down the phone and made it lag something fierce.

Battery life is leaps and bounds better than the HTC Touch pro. Just for reference. I have been streaming live radio on my phone since 7am this morning. Have done some light surfing and texting. It is now 9am and I still have about 3/4 battery left. I can't explain how stoked I am about that... I streamed live radio on the TP and it wouldn't last 2 hours and you could cook eggs on that thing.

It may seem like I'm bashing on HTC because I am. I don't think I'll ever buy another HTC phone. The build quality was terrible on the TP. I went through 3 of them things. The keyboard stopped working on the first 2. I take really good care of my phones and don't ever drop them so I know it wasn't me. It seemed like a lot of people had defective hardware. Where is the quality control!? I feel like HTC is spread way to thin and are releasing sooooo many phones, they don't really put in the time or effort to make a really solid product, but that's just my humble opinion. Take it for what it's worth.

Anyways, I loooooooooooooove the moment. I couldn't be happier. I honestly don't care if Sprint doesn't release an update to donut or 2.0 because the phone works so well now. I will probably update if they do come out but it's not like I'm scouring the internet waiting for any kind of firmware update or fix like I was with the TP.
