I think the issue is ith android-wifi-tether..I was using that..its having issues with 4g..I did speedtest app and got 7mb/sec dld on 2 bars...do speedtets on laptop and well the results are as above..3g works fine though.

I'm sure coverage will improve once more of my area is blanketed with 4g..but its a very interesting result...
The antenna is vertical, not horizontal.

When you hold the phone vertical, two things happen.

1. The antenna is raised.
2. The antenna is vertically polarized (as is the signal coming from the tower)

When the phone is horizontal, the internal antenna then becomes horizontally polarized, and a significant loss of signal occurs due to the different polarization of the signal and receiving element, ditto goes for the tower when you're transmitting with the phone(antenna) horizontal.
