HTC Touch Pro2 or HTC Hero?

I've been on Sprint for a while now. My first phone was Motorola Q (WM5) which I tossed for an HTC Mogul a year later. I loved the thing, but got bored of it quickly. I had some problems with it and called up Asurion and they sent me an HTC Touch Diamond as a replacement.

It's an alright phone, but I really missed my slide out QWERTY keyboard. I just don't like touch keyboards. It's less efficient for me. Considering I send a good 3,000+ texts a month, the keyboard is a very important factor for me. The TP2 should then be an obvious choice... but after 2 years, I've grown really tired of the Windows Mobile operating system. The Hero is due out sometime in October for Sprint, so now I'm having a dilemma.

I don't know if I want the phone with a spacious QWERTY keyboard and a large resistive (yuck) touch screen, or if I want the Hero with it's 5MP camera, "cooler" OS, and the much nicer capacitive touch screen.

What do you guys think? I'm going to check out the TP2 when it's released for Sprint and then hopefully the Hero a month after and see what I like more, but the Hero seems so much nicer... I just wish it had a physical keyboard like the G1! The Hero will probably be cheaper, too. That's just a guess on my part.

Re: HTC Touch Pro2 or HTC Hero?

I'm thinking about switching to the HTC Hero. I watched clips on youtube on both phones. Hero has more to offer then the same TP OS in a bigger phone. The only problem is the missing keyboard from the Hero.

Re: HTC Touch Pro2 or HTC Hero?

The more speculation I read about the Instinct Q the more I want it (over the Hero).

The AMOLED screen is a big draw, plus I believe the screen overall is supposed to be larger. Plus it has a hardware keyboard.

With all of the speculation floating out there, I want to wait till the specs firm up on the Instinct Q.... it already potentially has less power draw, brighter, and vivid colors (thank you AMOLED), now I want to see if it will have faster innards.

If the Specs from the Samsung Galaxy are any indicator... I am pretty stoked about the Instinct Q

Re: HTC Touch Pro2 or HTC Hero?

I'm going to get both... I'll use my upgrade credit to buy the Hero, and I'll exchange my TP1 for a TP2 as soon as insurance stops issuing the TP1 (no, I don't mean insurance fraud. My claim is legit, and I've already cleared this idea with my local sprint service center)

Any idea as to when insurance will start issuing the TP2... I have a watermark screen and have been holding for such an event.

TIA!!!

Just so you know, there have been quite a few reports on the much improved response of the TP2's screen. I wouldn't base my judgment on whether or not its resistive...

It's resistive.

Re: HTC Touch Pro2 or HTC Hero?

I am interested more in the Hero than TP2, however I want to wait another year because both are riding on "old" hardware. I want newer guts in my phone.

I feel you there. I get kind of sick seeing the same old Qualcomm 528MHz processor and 288MB ROM/512MB RAM.

Sigh, I may just spring for the TP2 for now and wait until a badass Android comes out for Sprint. I don't know. Gotta wait for the TP2 to come out first.
