Re: Touch Pro or Treo Pro
I have a Touch Pro, and I'm currently trying out a samsung ace because I find myself missing hard buttons.
I'd consider the treo pro, except it sounds like it is very ram limited. I'm seeing all sorts of conflicting info on the web right now, especially confusing the gsm and sprint models. then there's the whole "total ram" vs "reported" or "available ram" thing. same goes for storage as well, the ace is nice to play with, but it's a joke for installed programs. I'm just finding the touch screen requires too much tapping to get anything done. I like dedicated hardware buttons. If my mogul had more than 64 mb of ram, i would have kept it. why the hell do they constantly insist on making every device with one dealbreaker? Like no card slot on the Pre, for example. |

Re: Touch Pro or Treo Pro
My wifes got a centro and I guess the keyboard is about the same on a Treo Pro. Ive been trying to get a feel for her keyboard but Im having a hard time getting the hang of it. I love the 5 row Touch Pro board but thats the most common feature to break on it.

Re: Touch Pro or Treo Pro
Im a current user of the Treo Pro and ive grown to love it, my initial beef with it was the lack of customizations for my today screen since it is 320X320 and everything is made for the rectangle screens, but i have recently found customizations i am very happy with. the RAM issue does cause a problem if you use the new IE6 that comes with it (its a horrible RAM hog when u access flash enabled sites) but i use skyfire as my default web browser and coulnt be happier. if you dont use IE6 u'll prolly never notice the RAM problem and im sure they will release a fix for it eventually. the keyboard it spaced about the same as the Treo 800w so its not so cramped (much better and bigger than the centro btw). everything runs fast and smooth. size-wise it is much slimmer and lighter than the Touch Pro and the battery life is actually very good. overall i highly recommend it.

Re: Touch Pro or Treo Pro
I have had the Treo Pro for 2 weeks now and love it. Upgraded from Treo 700wx. The battery life is good enough to get me completely through the day even with Exchange Mail syncing when mail is received, and plenty of phone calls and internet browsing throughout the day. The keyboard is decent - much better than tapping on a screen. IE6 is a memory hog but Cody has an IE6 toggle that enables switching between full IE6 and the IE that was on WM5 whenever you want - sweet. GPS has been great, works with TomTom 7 without cellular signal. I have had no problems tweaking the today screen what with all of the available hacks out there not to mention RealVGA. WiFi works great. For tethering I use WMwifiRouter 1.25 - allows me to tether by WiFi, USB, or Bluetooth. EVDO revA is awesome - DSLReports download test of 1524KB down and 456 KB up. The MicroSD slot supports my 16GB card. My phone had about 48MB of program memory and 300MB of storage memory when I got it from Sprint. I have many many programs installed and still have 36MB of program memory available. Hope this helps.

Re: Touch Pro or Treo Pro
I upgraded from the Touch Pro. I, like Phreddo, found that with the Touch Pro it took too much screen tapping to get something simple done. Which in the age of the iPhone is fine, but the random sluggishness of the Touch Pro made it a lil more frustrating. I also found that I miss buttons and the Treo form factor
Here's a lil post comparing the two that I posted over at SprintUsers. Quote:

Re: Touch Pro or Treo Pro
I drive truck, so no matter how bad it is, using this thing while driving is a fact of life. The Ace operates very nicely, and I like the keyboard-specific features of WM 6.1 Standard. GPS and SDHC are nice to have, but the connector is -killing- me.
My big beef with the Treo Pro is that it has to default to 240x240 for many apps, or so I hear. I'm also a bit disappointed that HTC made the treo, don't ask me why. |
