Re: Replacing HTC touch pro with Palm Pre

I WOULD get a Pre, but unfortunately, it's looking like no SERO for the Pre. So I'll be sticking with my TPro. But really, I'm sticking with me SERO plan. Which I do until they forcibly pry it away from me. Or a better plan comes out. But most likely the prior.

Does anybody else cringe when everybody orgasm's over the Pre's multitasking abilities? I mean, WTF, our WM devices do multitasking like a champ. Yes, you can't have simultaneous windows open, but srsly, you really can't on Pre either. Don't get me wrong, IMHO, the Pre is an innovative and well designed device. But people aren't reviewing on how multitasking is sexier on the pre, just that its there. It's because of the iPhone. Apple makes a major decision to keep responsiveness high and utility low, and for some reason its become the standard. Decisions like that are why the iPhone is still not really considered a proper business device, and more of a consumer device.

For me .. if I could take the hardware of the pre and load a juicy or mighty rom on it I'd be happy. Throw a capactive screen on a Winmo device such as the Diamond/DIamond2/Touch pro/2 and I'd never look back. SICK of the resistive screens! To the point that I'll probably get a Pre.

Re: Replacing HTC touch pro with Palm Pre

Ok so here is my take on the Pre.
Pros of the PRE vs TP:
1) The OS is MUCH better than WinMo (no comparison at all.) I have eventried the 6.1 roms and even the 6.5 roms. nothing comes colse to the responsiveness and smooth fluid transitions of the Pre
2) Web browsing is much better than the TP. Pages load faster and the zoom feature is cool.
3) Battery life is much better than the TP. (at least for me it is...I have tried battery and performance cabs, reg edits etc... but the Pres is more efficient
4) Instant email notifications. Syncs with my hotmail and gmail with no problems
5) Multitasking is very nice and easy to do.
6) Auto sync with my google calendar and it upates in real time.
7) Sprint TV is less poxelated and easieer to navigate through
8) Screen resolution is fantactic and vibrant
9) Slimmer more modern design (not a big issue really but slimmer and smaller is the trend these days)
10) Scrolling is smooth and very responsive
11) Contact menue is more user friendly and will auto update/correct any duplicate contacts etc.
12) Standard head phone jack
13) louder speaker phone and earpeice (no need for an audio boost app/cab)
14) Screen rotation is more responsive (TP would lag and sometimes never rotate or would rotate in wrong direction)

Cons of Pre vs TP:
1) Teathering is an option, but doesn't work (gets error that internet sharing isnt avaliable)
2) No TV out (never used it on TP, but still a limiting factor)
3) No removable storage (I only had an 8gb minisd anyways, but once again a limiting factor)
4) Limited apps for now (unless you get the emulator, but I saw a video of the emulator and I did not like it...seems like something was put together to make previous Palm users satisfied till full app support is avaliable)
5) Keyboard is ok but far inferior to the TP keyboard ( However I do think it is mor convient to slide down keyboard (or slide up the screen) instead of turning you phone sideways in order to use the keyboard)
6) No digital zoom (The pic quality is very nice but no zoom feature)
7) No video recording (heard that an update will fix that but we all know about those updates)
8) no external notification of a missed call or txt msg etc...(will have to turn on screen to see if you missed anything)

Overall I am satisfied with the Pre and do not regret getting it. Now I will put my TP phone up for sale on craigs list

Hope this post helps

Re: Replacing HTC touch pro with Palm Pre

It is very iritating to browse the web(like in a pc monitor-Horizontally) with open keypad turned sideways, if you want to type web addresses, you have to turn the Pre vertically. In TP, it is a pleasure to browse the web!

The keyboard is adapted from the original Palm devices, and it used to be a single handed operation. But have you tried to type in Pre with single handed? Oh My!. TP is designed to use two hand, and it is a real full size keyboard!

No, I wouldn't go to Pre(waiting for the TP2)

You oughta expect a little bias in this forum. Check out these results, though: http://www.sprintusers.com/forum/sho...d.php?t=188287
Basically the same!

Touch Pro vs Palm Pre?

Im going back in for my 5th Touch Pro and Im getting tired of it. I received my 4th replacement phone from sprint. 1st two the keyboards died and were both new in the box phone. My 3rd one would not get on the internet. Now this one will not charge.

Any one have any experience with the Palm Pre? I like the ability to flash custom ROMS but im sick of the hardware issues. I need some advise.

Re: Touch Pro vs Palm Pre?

Looks like a nice phone, but they need to establish a user base and a large software library

It sucks that Sprint forces you to get a certain contract for the phone though, which means I would need to give up SERO, which is very not worth it for an unproven phone.
