Please, the Palm Pre is a downgrade from the TouchPro, I'll be losing out on 30% of my functions and miss out on all the good cooking from the Chefs. |
Re: Replacing HTC touch pro with Palm Pre
Way too early to tell on this... i'm sticking with WinMo until i can do any hands on comparisons...

Re: Replacing HTC touch pro with Palm Pre
updates:
29 no's to 3 yes's... wow... people love the htc touch pro over the pre!! |
Re: Replacing HTC touch pro with Palm Pre
there should be a "too soon to tell" option in the poll
my vote goes there |
Re: Replacing HTC touch pro with Palm Pre

Re: Replacing HTC touch pro with Palm Pre

Re: Replacing HTC touch pro with Palm Pre
Keeping my Pro until the Pro 2 come out. But I will be replacing my iC902 with the Pre as soon as its released.

Re: Replacing HTC touch pro with Palm Pre
As long as he is actively making roms, I'm buying whatever phone Mighty is messing with. Perhaps an "if my favorite chef goes" option : P

Re: Replacing HTC touch pro with Palm Pre
I thought my mogul was my last WinMo phone. But I was wrong.
The Touch Pro is my last WinMo phone ;) Not exactly sure the Pre will be the one I move to. Will have to see if there are other choices. But I'm pretty much sure this last bit of RedmondThink in my life will be removed. |
Palm Pre from Sprint Sooner than you think, TP owners, will you switch?
Check out the video tour of the pro by phonescoop, the device is sprint branded which means it should be out very very soon.
estimated date for pre order is the 15th, who will be switching? lets hear some opinions from the TP owners that will be jumping ship, or not..... =p Lets have some voices be heard. The way i see it, theyve both got keyboards, both have wifi, palm has multitouch, but lacks the sd card. The device is smaller than the pro, and to be honest, amazing looking. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JRnlzbuLRwM |
Re: Palm Pre from Sprint Sooner than you think, TP owners, will you switch?
I might. But I want to feel it im my hands and give it a test run before I make any wild decisions. It does...in the video...look pretty amazing. At least no one will have to worry about their chrome chipping!!

Re: Palm Pre from Sprint Sooner than you think, TP owners, will you switch?
I can't imagine that many TP users will switch; if anything we're looking at the next WM products. Owning the TP represents a commitment to the WM operating system and the Pre will quite literally be years behind the curve in OS establishment, development and app support.
It could be a great device, but for me to even consider switching, it will have to be out for quite a while. |
Re: Palm Pre from Sprint Sooner than you think, TP owners, will you switch?
hell no....
i think the pre is ugly and the OS is crap.... |
Re: Palm Pre from Sprint Sooner than you think, TP owners, will you switch?
hmm i agree with most of u, but still think that with webos, though i may not have much customizability, there will be more stability.the software seems much more responsive than wm to be honest. it offers the best of stability and usability. and design wise, i love it.
u gotta admit, touch flo gets buggy at times, and crashes a lot. for the business users, the palm with simplify a lot of things, but to be honest, i dont think i can ditch wm. i JUST bought the touch pro and was using the diamond before that, and before tht the htc touch, wm is just too amazing, cuz of this community and just its ability to do SO much |
Re: Palm Pre from Sprint Sooner than you think, TP owners, will you switch?
I will be waiting for a bit after the launch to make that move. Although I hate the WM programs, I do love being able to but whatever I can on my Diamond. I am waiting to see if the Pre scene will have the same level of programs to flash. I will be getting on but in time, cant wait.

Re: Palm Pre from Sprint Sooner than you think, TP owners, will you switch?
actually in my opinion the pre's OS looks amazing, i was hooked unti i found a flaw. since it is not a windows mobile phone, i do not believe you can install programs on it. due to this an internet sharing hack is impossible and would have to pay $50 extra for a tethering plan

Re: Palm Pre from Sprint Sooner than you think, TP owners, will you switch?
I think it looks gorgeous. This video makes the UI look a bit more sluggish than I thought it would be. No SD card? That makes no sense. Just put an SD card slot in every device please.
The reason why I won't switch is that it's not WinMo. At this point, I just need my phone to have Windows mobile. Nothing else will do. But I can definitely see people going crazy over the pre. My wife, for example, would probably love that thing. |
Re: Palm Pre from Sprint Sooner than you think, TP owners, will you switch?
Not I.....I will stick with my Pro until the Pro 2 most likley
|
Re: Palm Pre from Sprint Sooner than you think, TP owners, will you switch?
Where did you see that the Pre is coming out on the 15th? Are you sure you didn't mean the Palm Treo Pro? Palm and Sprint are supposed to be having a conference on Thursday of this week to give out some details, hopefully will include the release date, but afaik the Pre is still a ways off from being released.

Re: Palm Pre from Sprint Sooner than you think, TP owners, will you switch?
I'm a former Palm and Treo junkie. When I first saw the Pre (right after buying my Touch Pro, of course), I felt pangs of buyer's remorse. However, I began to think about the actual capabilities of the Pre vs. TP. Even though the "card system" of multi-tasking looks extremely cool, in practice it doesn't really offer any advantage of the TP. If I want to switch among tasks, I would have to press the button to bring up the 'cards' for running programs, flip among them, and then press the program I want to switch to. That's really no more convenient than hitting "home", press the x in the corner, and selecting a program.
The universal search is very cool, and I don't really see the need for more memory than the 8Gb it offers, but I don't see functional improvements. |
Re: Palm Pre from Sprint Sooner than you think, TP owners, will you switch?
Part of me wants to switch because I'm SO curious, then the other part of me loves my touch pro too much. I've already got a great phone but could the pre be even greater? lol.
I got burned when I jumped in as one of the first owners of the Instinct (also a java based phone) so I have to keep that in mind. Perhaps I'll give the Pre some time to ferment and when it's 100% stable and has a multitude of apps available, I'll consider it even more. |
Re: Palm Pre from Sprint Sooner than you think, TP owners, will you switch?
I would have gone from my Treo 650 to the Pre, but I couldn't wait any longer. I'll probably wait for my 2 year upgrade rebate before I do it.
|
Re: Palm Pre from Sprint Sooner than you think, TP owners, will you switch?
No I won't be switching to the Pre. Not a "cloud" fan and not a "smaller" fan either. Also not a fan of devices that don't have any MicroSD slot. In addition, not a fan of devices that don't have stand alone GPS capability, from what I've heard the Pre is aGPS only.
And after my Treo 800w experience, Palm would have to make something even better than Pre (I mean super way better than anything known to exist) before I'd buy another of their devices. |
Re: Palm Pre from Sprint Sooner than you think, TP owners, will you switch?
I'm not much of a phone butterfly anyway... I would still be using my Treo700WX if it hadn't been stolen :???:
|
Re: Palm Pre from Sprint Sooner than you think, TP owners, will you switch?
It's the Treo PRO that is going to be out on 3/15, no pre-ordering of the Pre and not even a hint of when it will be out other than "first half of 09" so far. It is a very compelling product, IMO. I like WM and like to tinker with it but also a business owner, so actual phone communications is important to me. I'll wait for it to release and then see how it goes. I typically wait 3-4 months after something has been released before I jump.

Re: Palm Pre from Sprint Sooner than you think, TP owners, will you switch?
I'm done with windows... switching as soon is released!
|
Re: Palm Pre from Sprint Sooner than you think, TP owners, will you switch?
I'm taking the plunge i'm not afraid of stepping out of the box at least for a year since im a premier customer. The tethering thing kinda made me hesitant but its not a big deal. No sd slot is no biggie either it has 8gb of onboard and I havn't even used 1/4 of my 4gb on my TP. I just don't want to be limited to one OS without trying others.
|
Re: Palm Pre from Sprint Sooner than you think, TP owners, will you switch?
I'm intrigued and the OS does seem to run smooth and efficent. I saw a couple graphic hiccups/artifacts that I would have preferred not to see. That's my main gripe with WM is that it does have graphic acceleration issues.
However, if the Pre is properly supported by the development community the way the Iphone has been, this phone will be a savior of sorts for Sprint. WM phones have their place, but this one might be that bridge that brings usability to the "pocket computers" our WM phones have become. |

Re: Palm Pre from Sprint Sooner than you think, TP owners, will you switch?
Will I switch? yeah, there is a very good chance.
TP is slow at times, video playback still a problem. If I have to read forum threads just to make my video plays better, or render better, that is just ridiculous. But, the wm does still have sling mobile, so my wait will be to play with the device when it comes out, and wait to see if Sling have any plans to make a mobile player for the pre, then I am out of here. and seriously HTC, your continual use of usb variant on the headphones is what kills it for me, and this crappy windows mobile OS. really HTC? REALLY? are you freaking kidding me? ok, rant over. |
Re: Palm Pre from Sprint Sooner than you think, TP owners, will you switch?
i think that the Palm Pre will turn into another Samsung Instinct, will do pretty well at first then eveyone will come back to Winmo. And there probly going to market the Palm Pre instead of the Diamond 2 or TP 2 and sprint going to fail us once again. IMHO excuse my little rant. lol
