im torn on this.... just have to try one myself and see
in honestlly getting sick of winmo crap and M$ isnt doing much about it either so its Pre or Android |
Re: Palm Pre from Sprint Sooner than you think, TP owners, will you switch?
Why would installing on this be different than the 755P? The OS? I installed tons of apps on all of my old Palm phones, so unless something about the new OS prevents this, you should be able to...

Re: Palm Pre from Sprint Sooner than you think, TP owners, will you switch?
did you huys know you can run palm OS emulator so that you can use Palm Applications on PPC's running windows? http://www.styletap.com/ i know the palm pre will have Web OS but i just ran across this and it might show you what WebOS applications might end up being.

Re: Palm Pre from Sprint Sooner than you think, TP owners, will you switch?
I'm not surprised either. WM has become the new Palm. They have really not done much at all to improve their OS over the last few years. If you peel off the masks that Samsung and HTC have put on their newer WM phones, you still have the old, clunky, non-finger friendly interface. It's going to take a huge improvement on Microsoft's part to get WM where it is sought after by the masses. What surprises me is the amount of people here that think that WM is a hugely popular OS. Your everyday average customer doesn't want to put as much time and effort into their phone as we do. People tend to not want to work that hard at making their phone work efficiently. I seriously doubt the Pre will be similar to the instinct. Palm has a long history in the smartphone/pda world. The problem they ran into is similar to what MS is doing now. It took them forever to overhaul their OS. With the amount of time and resources they have put into their new OS, I'm pretty confident it will be successful.

Re: Palm Pre from Sprint Sooner than you think, TP owners, will you switch?
The main thing that would keep me from even considering it, would be if you have to change your plan. I won't give up my SERO.
After being a PalmOS user until the Touch Pro, I think I'll stay with my TP until a WM6.5 (TouchPro3???) phone comes out someday(hopefully). I admit that I think that WM is clunky and dated, but you can't beat the amount of programs available. I hope for bigger things from 6.5. |

Re: Palm Pre from Sprint Sooner than you think, TP owners, will you switch?
You guys do make some pretty good points. I'm going to definitely play with one at the store. But like I said, I jumped into the instinct as one of the first adopters, and I got burned. I really hope the pre does the exact opposite for people.
So in other words, I won't be one of the first adopters, but for reason listed here, I more than likely eventually become an owner. |

Re: Palm Pre from Sprint Sooner than you think, TP owners, will you switch?
I wont be buying one release weekend or anything, but as long as early reviews are positive I'll probably be jumping ship.
Don't know yet if it will be to the Pre or Android, but I think it's time to move on. What's funny is the dedicated number row on the G1 might make all the difference... |
Re: Palm Pre from Sprint Sooner than you think, TP owners, will you switch?
well i started with the Mogul then the Touch and now the TP....however with each ive had issues with...the mogul mainly...the touch to me was the most solid after running a cooked rom...and now to the TP which Mighty Mike's rom stopped me from placing it under the tire of my car.
i will be checking out the pre and see if i like it and if its as reliable as it sounds. i really think that maybe we should provide support on it if we can here on this site...cus frankly...i spend more time on this site then on any other period lol... |
Re: Palm Pre from Sprint Sooner than you think, TP owners, will you switch?
I started with the Palm3 and went to palm 700, also had PPC 6600- Tpro. I will stick with the WM. You have Android G1/ WebOS / and what ever OS the instinct has, that mean the Microsoft Team has to come up with a OS to top them all like the old Pocket PC OS did 97. Stand your ground WM owners because the OS War is on..........Who will be on top WebOS / WM7 / Android

Re: Palm Pre from Sprint Sooner than you think, TP owners, will you switch?
wow, i didnt expect this many replies from the community. But i'd like to thank everyone for letting their voices be heard.
Honestly, theres way too many pros and cons. but as many have said, until you actually hold the device and use it, it will never be the same. i just wish there could be webos portability so that we could emulate the actual os on our wm platform. but i want everyone to ponder on one aspect, regardless of the flaws and problems windows mobile has, youve gotta admit, NO PHONE OUT THERE can match its customizability. The ability to update software, put on new apps, tether(as some1 said). Speaking from professionals position; remote desktop is SO necessary, so many other things that make the TP worth keeping. Lets see what happens when it gets released, im personally with Bell in Canada, and Im hoping the device gets released soon. But you never know until the device is on hand. Once again Id like to thank everyone for their opinions, I had no idea that this thread would be this popular so quickly. |
Re: Palm Pre from Sprint Sooner than you think, TP owners, will you switch?
Yes, WM is so customizable. I appreciate the fact that the average consumer wants a device that's ready to use without having to do anything to it. Personally, I love customizing my device to make it behave just the way I want to.
One thing that's making me stay with WM is that I know what it can do. I know what apps I need to do the things I need to run my business. Need to remotely access my computer, no problem. Need to SSH into a web server? Done. Tethering to a laptop is also a breeze. One aspect that is very important for me is the user community. We have a strong base of users here and at various other sites, always coming up with new apps that work on a wide variety of devices. One thing that concerns me with the Pre (or the Iphone), is that for now, it's one OS that works on phones from a single manufacturer... I can sell my TP now, get a different phone from a different company, and still use the same stuff. |
Re: Palm Pre from Sprint Sooner than you think, TP owners, will you switch?
I have had both the Mogul and Touch. I missed the keyboard from the Mogul, but I didnt miss how it was a little slower and a little thicker compared to the Touch. I didnt go for the Diamond or Touch Pro, mostly because I new that something new and better was going to come out soon after (Diamond 2 and Touch Pro 2). Anyways, I'm really looking forward to the Pre mostly because it seems to have a lot of the things I would want in a phone. WebOS seems pretty stable, the screen seems to be fairly responsive, and I like that it has a keyboard, wifi, and a decent camera, all in a small size. But I will definitely agree with you guys, you cant really tell until you get your hands on it, just like the Instinct (Boy was that a huge disappoint, after all that hype from Sprint), and I would also agree that WM is probably more customizable than WebOS, but I still think it will run more smoothly. Overall, I am really looking forward to the Pre, and I hope this helps sprint get out of the grave they have been digging themselves into for a while. I have a sweet plan and dont want to lose it or switch companies.
By the way, I love the touchstone they came out with. That is just sick! I'm definitely getting that if I get the Pre. |
Re: Palm Pre from Sprint Sooner than you think, TP owners, will you switch?
Is This The True IPhone Killer?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UiQzCd2OnoM ^^^8 reasons why it is^^^^^ check out the vid dont know if it was already posted or not.... i must say i do love the versitility of WM....but i manage a sprint store and no one i know that i would sell the TP to would know how to do the things we do to it...and face it...out of the box the phone fails miserably...sprint needs something that isnt too complex and yet versitile in every way and still easy enough for the average joe to figure it out. ps....i spend hours every day at work when theres nothing to do messing around modding my phone and just playing with it on here....if the tp was perfect then i wouldnt have anything to do all day lol....but yet in still i would like to see how well the pre perforsm before i commit to it...i also want to see what Microsoft is going to do...if they wait to long they will lose a lot of business...2 years contracts can stop a lot of users from switching! |
Re: Palm Pre from Sprint Sooner than you think, TP owners, will you switch?
Here's my decision: I'm sticking with my diamond most likely thru the 3rd Qtr of this year... soon as both Pre and TP2 are out i'll have to revisit my gameplan... because a few things could happen:
1 "The sega genesis vs Super nintendo scenario": the Pre becomes a BEAST of a phone - i mean even slaying the Iphone.... but gets no 3rd party support whatsoever and dies a quiet death... 2 "The It's-cheaper-to-keep-her scenario": The pre is out for like 3 months and all of the tech is imitated/emulated/replicated to run as a shell OS/UI on our WinMo devices... I tend to think #2 will happen or at least tide me over for a while a la what we see with the TP2 cabs that have been flooding in after being ripped out of 6.5! We keep incorporating new elements of next gen devices into our already existing phones... LOVE YOU WinMO! lol |
Re: Palm Pre from Sprint Sooner than you think, TP owners, will you switch?
I have a diamond and its my first windows mobile phone (i got it like a month ago). And i do love this phone, but the only BAD thing for me is that (and by bad i mean good) WM is so customizable lol. Its TOO customizable for me. There is SO much you can do w/ a windows mobile phone, and sometimes it just gets over my head alot. And everyday all I do is go to ppcgeeks and xda looking for the newest and greatest software.
It might be a stupid reason, but I think I may switch to the pre just because its all there and set, you dont have to install differen't roms, change theme's, reg edits etc. Its all there, and all you have to do is install apps. I spend like 1-2 hours a day looking up windows mobile stuff because its so exciting and fun, and I think with the pre I won't be doing as much, so the only reason I would switch is so I am not so addicted to my phone! haha But of course this all depends how much a pre will cost on ebay..... |
Re: Palm Pre from Sprint Sooner than you think, TP owners, will you switch?
I'm planning on selling the Touch Pro I bought with a bad ESN that I've used as a guinea pig for some stuff and buy a Pre once it comes out. I'm about ready for something new to play with, but I don't want to jump ship completely. I'll still keep my other Touch Pro and use it for the most part.

im sorry i just had to say internet sharing is not stealing...theres no difference in surfing the web from the phone or a laptop...it just makes it convenient...and because i actually used to pay for it before i switched over to an employee plan...which everything is inculded in as well as free downloads...

Why I might not switch: Potential lack of an internet tethering hack. Current conversation between me and chappy: Why the internet tethering hack is needed, and why doing it on the pre, or any phone for that matter, is ok or not. YOU CAN NOT DENY MY LOGIC, I AM ON TOPIC :D |
Re: Palm Pre from Sprint Sooner than you think, TP owners, will you switch?
Because you are supposed to pay to use your phone as a modem. When you say you are paying for unlimited data, thats for use on the handset, not as a modem.
