Re: Replacing HTC touch pro with Palm Pre
With the announcement on April 1st that old palm apps will work through emulation I am IN. I'm wondering if the emulated apps will properly integrate with the calendar, tasks etc when they need to. There are a few palm apps in particular that I haven't found a good replacement for.

Re: Replacing HTC touch pro with Palm Pre
Touch Pro 2, Diamond 2 have such a minor benefit, I will def not be upgrading to them. (I'll either keep my diamond until Diamond 3/ TP3 come around or get the Pre).
The Palm Pre looks awesome. I am very excited about it, but I will only get one if I can keep my SERO plan. If I can't, then I will pass it up. Nothing to it more than that.

Palm Pre Launch Date - May 16? Leaked Sprint Planning Documentation Reveals Possible May 16th Release Date For Palm Pre We’re all anxiously waiting for the release of the Palm Pre and until now the most likely launch window has been vaguely rumoured to be somewhere between mid-May to end of June (in line with Palm and Sprint’s official “within the first half of 2009”). Having said this, thanks to a leaked Sprint planning doc (image above) it appears that it’s possible that we will see the Palm Pre coming out sooner rather than later with an ETA of Sunday, May 17th – just a little over a month away!!! Considering that Sprint has simultaneously also implemented a “May vacation freeze” for all its employees we have to assume that this latest Palm Pre release date is the most solid we’ve come across yet. At the same time, one begins to wonder just how far an actual launch date can be when Palm Pre smartphones begin showing up in the wild… As you can see above, two people (image above) were caught taking pictures/video with a Palm Pre in their hands at an annual “Bring Your Own Big Wheel” race. There’s no way of knowing if these were Sprint or Palm employees or some lucky beta testers but if all these latest rumours are true I guess that we will also be able to get our hands on our very own Palm Pre within just five short weeks… Finally, if the rumours of a May 17th release date are to be believed then I expect that Palm and Sprint will have to make an announcement either two or four weeks before – possibly this Friday, April 17 or Friday, May 1

Re: Replacing HTC touch pro with Palm Pre
I think I might get a couple of Pre phones for my girlfriend and I when they come out. I used to be a Palm user but after a while on my Treo 650 (last Palm I owned) all of the good software and features were coming out for WM. I got a Mogul and that was a so-so affair...did a lot but not well. When the Mogul started to die I exchanged it out for a Touch Pro and while it is working much better than my Mogul, there are some nice things I really like about the Pre. For a while now I have been looking for a nice modern phone with hardware accelerated video that didn't require me to give up things like keyboard, tethering, multitasking, and my cheap-*** Sprint plan. Looks like Pre will be the first to give me all of these things.
Personally I use my phone to organize my life (a-la traditional PDA), listen to streaming radio, browse the web, make calls (duh), and navigate. Pre seems to have excellent PDA functionality as it will integrate my Outlook contacts and calendar via Exchange with facebook and Gmail (the other two big ones I use). Streaming radio looks excellent with Pandora built in and a 3.5mm headphone jack. Web browsing looks miles ahead of any of the WM browsers and can compete with the iPhone's browser without forcing me to give up a real keyboard on the device. Navigation also looks great. So far the Pre looks to improve on the things I do most over the TP so I will probably get one. My girlfriend is sick of me always having the nice phones so I will probably end up getting a pair of them when they have been out and reviewed for a few weeks. |

Re: Replacing HTC touch pro with Palm Pre
I've been a Palm OS/Treo user for the past 3 years and just recently made the switch to WinMo a la TP a couple months ago. Had I not just gotten my Pro, I'd get the Pre in a heart beat. Wow, what a beauty. But I think my next upgrade will be a TP 3 or Pre 2 - whichever comes first. But I must admit, I LOVE the customization of the WinMo phones. Let's see how the marketplace/app store shapes up.
