yup it is advancing, but its gonna take a lot more to make it better than regular old controls as far as games go... you can't get precise controls in really competitive sports games, fps games, etc... and if there are instances of exact controls its probably not very realistic. eventually, it would be great to be able to play realistically in certain games but nintendo has a long way to go to make that work. once they get it right im all over it though. for now its more like a fun party to have a lot of laughs with friends. ive never seen so many older people willing to play a game before lol.
as far as phones its not impressing me at all for games.. i want to see it used for more productive stuff! it has brought game development to phones though so i guess thats good --- advancement is better than no advancement. if we didnt have the accelerometer the games would be even harder to control with the stiff buttons and inflexible onscreen keys we have. now that phones are much more powerful, they should have a phone that has a hidden gamepad like we have a hidden keyboard.
