Glad I could help ;-)

I did pick up an iPhone 3G this morning, and as much as I've played with others before, I'm utterly blown away so far. I set up every detail & custom setting in about 5 minutes. One word: intuitive.

One of my biggest fears was/is the dropped call issue - after all, if it sucks as a phone, it sucks PERIOD. Time will tell, but so far so good. I will say this though - the call quality is CLEAN - in 10 years with Sprint I never heard call quality like that...

I'll check back in after a few days have gone by. I lived with the Touch Pro for a month, so it's only fair I post a review of the "other side" after I've given it a shot.

Thanks for listening!

Jim

For me, the downers are all policy related
- stuck with AT&T - shudder
- stupid restrictions on kinds of apps developers can create limits useful apps via the appstore or forces you into jailbreak
- hardware itself (3g vs 1st gen) is approaching HTC cheapness. Crappy GSM chip. Crappy GPS chip. Crappy plastic back. Crappy antenna (coverage/dropps).

Plus side - when it does work, it just works. If it does what you want, it does it well. Great screen. Great, natural user interface.

You can get all the "features" of an iPhone except for the phone part by buying the ipod touch. Maybe that's what you want. I carry an HTC Mogul and a jail broken ipod touch, works for me ;)

I do that too. But I carry Iphone instead of Ipod touch. I just have a radio. I use it out of the country. Honestly, I know a lot of people have a WM and ipod touch. Just because they do not wanna be tied to other carriers.

Ever wonder what if WM and Iphone is combined? What do U think it will do? Well, here's what it would be:

No info yet. But it's gonna be due sometime q3 or q4 next year. If U wanna know more info about the Tegra platform, I created a thread about it's development. It has a lot of awesome videos inside. Check it out.

Re: Anyone have an iPhone or come from one?

Well, thought I'd check in after having used the iPhone since last Friday (returned my 3rd Touch Pro). BTW, I'm the guy that posted the LONG comparison a few posts back ;-)

Man, I gotta say, as much as I loved the Touch Pro for its feature list, the iPhone is completely in a class by itself in terms of overall usability. I will provide more details if asked, but suffice it to say the iPhone is simply miles beyond any other mobile device I've ever seen, used or imagined. Now I get what all the hype is about - and I don't think that's possible until you've used one yourself for any real period of time (tinkering with store displays does NOT count).

Despite that long list I made earlier, I really only miss two things from the TP:

1. The Touch Pro's screen resolution. The iPhone's screen is significantly bigger, which is great, but the TP was razor sharp, which made tiny text much easier on the eyes - not to mention picture viewing, etc.

2. The camera. Man, the TP takes some killer pics - the best I've ever seen from a phone camera. The iPhone's camera simply sucks by comparison.

For almost every other missing feature of the iPhone (as it ships anyway), I found a free app within minutes, and they work perfectly.

Factor in the overall build quality and the consistency, speed and fluidity of the iPhone OS, the app store, the MUCH better call quality (still can't believe that) - and I'm sold. Surprisingly I don't even miss the hardware keyboard - there are landscape keyboards for the iPhone (but with no moving parts) and they work just fine.

Finally, I really like how the iPhone feels in hand. It's much thinner & lighter than the TP, yet it feels much more solid at the same time.

Both devices will get the job done, but for my money there's just no comparison. If I sound like a fanboy, so be it - I'm being as objective as possible. Just thought I'd provide my own conclusion after having given BOTH phones a fair shake - wanted to let you know which way I voted with my hard-earned dollers. Feel free to do the same with yours ;-)

All the best, my friends...

Jim

How much are you paying per month?

Same as I was with Sprint, except since my home & long distance service are also with AT&T, they do bundles when you add wireless service. So, I'm now paying $30 less per month for phones (home & cell) than I was with Sprint. So I'm coming out ahead in that department.

It's a bummer that AT&T's plans aren't as cheap as Sprint's, but the bundle stuff makes up for that if it applies to you...

How are you doing with the battery life on the iPhone? I could never last a whole day with it :(. Granted I odnt think the TP or diamond can either, but my old touch usually makes it through the day on a single charge. I still really like the iPhone, if they would get flash on the iPhone I think I might to it.
