I've had the Mogul for a couple weeks and have just processed an exchange for the touch. I thought that I could live with the issues that the mogul suffers but I just can't. Four main things are driving me a bit batty:

1) form factor - I'm just too used to having a small and light phone. the hard kb is great to have but I wish it was about a quarter of an inch thinner. It doesn't sit in my pocket well. Something that I could definitely get used to over time though

2) flimsy construction - the rear battery cover is so cheap and just generally the feel of the thing is kinda chintzy. After only a couple weeks of use the screen has developed a bit of play

3) stability - I'd do soft resets at least 4-5 times a day with the 2.09 ROM. Not that bad - but still pretty aggravating. However far too many times will the thing simply freeze up and slow down for no particular reason - the only solution being to reset it. The newested 2.17 ROM makes it even worse. I can hardly stand using it now - uninstalling and re-installing the X-button cab seems to have helped a bit but in the end it's a memory and ROM issue. I have to do soft resets pretty much every other time I pick the thing up. I'm not really even that intensive a user - I'm starting to understand why some people are so vehement about how poorly the thing runs with the current ROM. I thought a lot of people were going a bit overboard, but with people using the thing quite a bit and multi-tasking, I could see how it could drive someone absolutely nuts.

4) Bluetooth - related to the latter but seriously, why can't they figure out how to fix this so it works properly when the Tilt and Touch both seem to work fine in this function? I didn't think it would bug me as I don't use a headset or handsfree that often - but not having it work at all or very spotty at best bugs the crap out of me. Horrible signal noise on the receiver's end and low to no volume on my end. I have a fairly expensive handsfree bluetooth system in my car - I'd like to be able to use it...

I know that I will miss the hard kb - but using touchpal for a couple days on my mogul has helped me figure out how little I actually use the full qwerty keypad. The only time I actually really need the fully qwerty is when I'm inputting passwords. Otherwise for 90% of usage the touchpal keypad is actually as fast as using the full qwerty when I'm typing texts and such. It also gets better as you use touchpal as it will store often used or new words for later use.

I agree 100%. Had the mogul for three months and switched to the Touch. Soft resetting to reinstate stability and ram is bothersome.

BTW, if you are having problems entering passwords with TouchPal, then just hit Help/Options on the top menu bar and select precise input mode then you should be able to enter passwords with no problem.

Re: Mogul or Touch??

My brother is a wm software developer and he told me microsoft purposely make the "x-botton" minimize instead of closing a program, they enforce it by not letting developers close the program with the x if they want "certified for wmobile" status. They actually want people to leave programs running so they open quicker. Anyways thought this was funny since the mogul has so little ram left over for programs. I kind of feel like the mogul is leftover 6700 parts with better battery and agps. Anyways I plan to hold out till the Mogul replacement and think the Touch is kind of girly shaped, like a makeup compact or something.

Re: Mogul or Touch??

I like the look and size of the Touch but I don't know if I would like not having the QWERTY keyboard. I don't know what you guys run on your Moguls but I rarely have to reset my Apache. I don't usually have to reset it at all most days but days I try stuff out on it I reset 2 or 3 times at most just because I'm trying different things on it. I don't really see the need to upgrade to the Touch or Mogul other than the size factor. I have an extended battery on my Apache so it is very large which is a little annoying but other than that I love it.

Re: Mogul or Touch??

Yeah, I like the smaller size of the touch and I might try to get used to the lack of keyboard but no GPS and no WiFi killed it for me. My big 4 things were always:

3G
WiFi
GPS
QWERTY

I might try to get over the lack of qwerty since it's more something you get used to but the others are a must for how I use my device.

Re: Mogul or Touch??

yep, all up to personal preference, i love the touch, and the mogul, but the touch won me over. the extra ram makes it an animal compared to the mogul.

Im a huge mogul fanboy, but ive only had to soft reset my touch once, and thats cuz of wisbar. Other than that, touchpal works much better than the hard KB in my opinion...plus its small, sexy, stable, has a better camera and speakerphone(much better)....

yes i miss the hard buttons, wifi, and gps, but now that im used to it, i actually prefer this over my mogul 10 fold. COme on GPS!! lol,

its really a matter of personal preference, in the end, both have their respective ups and downs, but both are ridiculously capable devices, and actually, are essentially the same phone. hope this helps

Re: Mogul or Touch??

Having used both the Touch and Mogul, I have to agree with Success (even if he is a sellout... LOL!). They definitely both have the pros and cons and are both good devices in their own way. I switched from the Touch to the Mogul and will admit that the lack of free memory is a fairly irritating issue, but I run my Mogul pretty cleanly and have learned to do so regularly.

What we really need is for HTC to offer us a Touch with a QWERTY keyboard and GPS... slightly bigger but plenty of memory and all the TouchFlo goodness that Touch users love.
