Re: EVO vs Epic.. Thinking of Evo, need opinions

The Iphone does not feel like a toy, the Ipod Touch does not feel like a toy, the EVO does not feel like a toy, the Epic FEELS LIKE A TOY!

I do not know why, but it does feel like a cheap chinese knock off. Now thats my ignorant 2 cents!

Re: EVO vs Epic.. Thinking of Evo, need opinions

What about the GPS?

I haven't seen it mentioned much in this thread but I have heard that the GPS is inferior in the Epic.

I am in the boat of having to get a new phone soon (as I lost my HTC Touch). I am using a Mogul in the meantime because I had one as a spare. I love the keyboard on the mogul vs the Touch but the GPS is terrible, and it's a feature that I use very often.

The most important things to me are (in order):

Call quality,
Durability (I drop my phone alot - the Touch was AWESOME in this regard),
internet browser to be as close pc quality as possible.
GPS,
Tethering (Free),
Camera.

Which phone would be better, thinking long term for the next year (I realize Evo had more updates than Epic)?

Re: EVO vs Epic.. Thinking of Evo, need opinions

Ohh man, this is my ignorant point of view because I do not have the Epic.

GPS on the EVO is as good as it gets, no lag, very stable.
Durability, can't really say, I protect the phone a lot, though some have said it is durable.
Tethering is free if you Root! Awesome!
8 MP camera! Works great, great picture quality.

Which would be better? Can't really say as far as updates and such. I would say maybe both are obsolete in the next year or so.

Considering your priorities both phones would last to next year as I dont think next year things like call quality, Durability, internet browsing, GPS, Tethering or Camera are gonna go up much...maybe the camera at best..

As far as GPS is concerned on the Epic, so far I never had much GPS issues..but other people do...by the looks of it though its mostly people saying its doing 30m on approximations for those with the issues. Samsung though did promise a GPS upgrade soon. When do you plan on buying your phone?

I believe he's just eradicating some of the ridiculous notions and assumptions people have with that fantastic device. Its like they're threatened by it, in the same way there is no other phone.. to iphoner's.

Re: EVO vs Epic.. Thinking of Evo, need opinions

I have an evo and an epic (well i gave my epic to my gf) and the epic's gps does suck. I don't know what the problem is, ive even downloaded agps programs which help but the evo kills the epic in gps. the thing the epic has going for it is the screen, which is obvious. the battery is roughly the same but another positive to the epic is that it connects to 4g about 4x faster then the evo when 4g is turned on and i'm pretty sure the epic's 4g signal is a little bit better then the evo's but not by much at all. evo has 2.2 and cm6 which is all that matters. when cm6 comes to the epic i might switch with my gf. cyanogen will finally have 4g officially in his area oct 3 and he is getting a clearwire plan to get 4g on his rom. sprint won't let him sign up without a 2 year contract, so that is obviously out of the picture for him.

I want to buy asap. I was exited to see the keyboard on the epic but I heard rumors of inferior call quality, 4g, wifi, and gps. Basically that these are buggy.

I think they will probably fix all of that but when?

Also heard evo has flash now?

How good are the keyboard options for the evo?

Also I forgot to add Battery life as another factor. Which one is better?
you must not have read the post 2 posts above yours. evo has worse 4g then the epic. if you turn the epic on in a 4g area it will turn on and connect in about 9 seconds. if you do the same with the evo, it will take about 20-25 seconds before the 4g radio turns on and finally connects. Also i've been on the very outskirts of 4g and my evo will not connect and my epic will still be connected but with no bars. call quality is exactly the same, if someone says one is better then the other its so minute it doesn't matter. And EVERYONE knows the epic 4g is inferior to the evo. the epic just got an update last week and the gps did get better but it is no where near the evo's. evo doesn't have a keyboard, so since you will probably install swype they are exactly the same being that the epic comes with sywpe already installed. Not to mention every keyboard is pretty much available for every phone, just install the apk and you're good to go. its not that the evo has flash, its that it has froyo 2.2 which comes with flash and the epic is still on 2.1 for about another month or so.
