Re: Goodbye evo
What you should hate is windows mobile. Mine EVO is great I did a few minor tweaks and I get 14 hrs with data on always. I do however keep GPS off because I don't need it to be on constantly. However, I have to imagine that that HD2 can't be always data and GPS on and give you great battery life as well without doing major tweaks like custom ROM's, and all sort of other crap that WM needs just to be basically functioning. I've had WM phones for awhile and they were neat to customize "code word: make it usable" but so far this android stuff is the real cats meow in my opinion but I guess I don't really care about what phone you use anyway.

Re: Goodbye evo
Root and flash to a new ROM! My battery life went from about the same as yours (6 hours), with constant crashing using GPS or 3G, to all day battery life with zero issues with switching to Fresh's 0.3 ROM. Before sending back a phone that you enjoy using, why not try to make it better? You can always flash back to stock if you decide to return it.

Re: Goodbye evo
why do people who come from other platforms complain that you can't leave gps on all the time? Would you still feel that way if the EVO came out of the box with the little gps widget switched to off?
You didnt have gps running on winmo unless you used an app, so what's the problem? Winmo doesnt even have many apps that use gps. Run gmaps nonstop and see how long your battery lasts on winmo. It sounds to me that you didn't even try to make you battery last longer. Sometimes I think people take way too much advantage of what Android can do and forget that there's just a tiny battery powering it. YOu even said battery was fine the first two weeks, so obviously you did something different or installed something that's causing battery usage. Do you have tons of apps that autoupdate in the background? Is your screen set to full brightness? These are things you can adjust without sacrificing what you would be getting on other platforms. Enjoy the lack of support on winmo and tmos terrible, terrible coverage. . That has always been enough for me to stay away from gsm.

Re: Goodbye evo
Force HTC to fix the phone? There is nothing wrong with the phone. I and many others are getting "normal" battery use. Normal being...what you expect from a smart phone. I can't comment for others, by I'm getting around 20 Hours under normal to heavy use. I'm really satisfied.
I mean what do you want HTC to do....attach a car battery?? The truth is, phone technology is far exceeding battery technology. If you want to put pressure on any company, do it to battery manufacturers. Now, could there be software fixes made by Google? Sure...but its the waiting game until Froyo comes out. |

Wirelessly posted (Sprint HTC Evo : Mozilla/5.0 (Linux; U; Android 2.1-update1; en-us; Sprint APA9292KT Build/ERE27) AppleWebKit/530.17 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Mobile Safari/530.17)
at least you are not going back to a device with a tiny screen lol. but personally, windows mobile is a fading memory for me .. or should I use headache instead lol

Re: Goodbye evo
I listened to music all day yesterday on my phone, talked for ~30 minutes, sent ~ 20 text, and browsed the internet/market/emails for a total of about 40 minutes. I have "Data Always On" turned off as well as "Background Data." After 16.5 hours of use yesterday I was at 13% battery remaining, just in time to go to bed. I am perfectly happy with the battery life of this phone.
