Totally agree with this statement. When i went into the sprint store to try out the Touch, I hated it. No hard KB, hardly any buttons, felt light and cheap ect.. but after a couple of months i'd had enough with my Mogul issues. Ordered a Touch and couldn't be happier.

But, seriously how many people do you see write "ya I took my 6800 out of the box and OMGZ its flawless!!"
Most replys are "well i installed the WM5 or "THEE ROM" then tweaked this and cooked that" and it beats the pants off that phone.

My point is even though the original packaged phone has it cons, like limited number of hard buttons, cheesy (in some people opinion) onscreen keyboard, there are ton of apps to improve these shortcomings (i.e. AE button plus, KB apps). Yes, it could be done to this phone too not just the Mogul. I still miss the hard KB but I type faster on the touch /shrugs

So do some research on the available software out there for both phones and see what it could do for what you would consider "the perfect phone "

I have to say I was anxious to get this phone once I heard it was on it's way (Thanks PhoneArena). Unfortunately I had to wait several days to activate it due to Sprint's backend upgrades this week. What idiot decided to make this major upgrade the same day they introduce a phone that was supposed to compete with I-Phone? Obviously their departments to not TALK to each other! This action left a sour taste in my nouth.

There are numerous flaws with this phone. First, and the most annoying, is that in standby mode the phone crashes for no apparent reason. At first I suspected it was due to one of the programs running in the background but after I closed all the running programs it still happened. This caused me to lose several incoming calls. Each time I didn't find out the phone had crashed until I went to use it myself. The worst part about this is that you cannot reboot the phone using any button. You have to take off the rear battery cover and remove the battery and then re-install. Very frustrating.

The second most annoying feature is the pop-up keyboards. On many occasions the keyboard hides the fields that you are trying to enter data into. This means you have to continuously go back and forth checking what you have typed to see if it's correct. How hard would it have been to move the whole screen upwards to keep the input field visible? Could no one at HTC see this problem? Wow.

There are other problems too. Too numerous to mention here. Let's just say that the blame for these problems should be disrtibuted evenly between Sprint, Microsoft, and HTC. I hope the first firmware update addresses these major issues quickly. You can also point the finger at Apple too. Because of the I-Phone manufaturers and service providers are rushing out phones before they're ready. To me the HTC Touch is a beta prototype at best.

lolz or better yet, install a free software like QUICKMENU, SPB SHELL, or other million software out there which let u soft reset, suspend, safe mode, hibernate and hard reset from the menu screen.

same thing goes with the keyboard, there are a few program that can mimic the mogul full screen keyboard, and are big enought for your finger tip in landscape mode. i do not have the touch yet but i have try all this softwares and i have no use for the keyboard anymore. just map a hard wheree botton on your touch to switch to landscape for typing (just like the mogul which switch to landscape when u push out the keyboard)

What good is a soft reset button on the screen if your phone is crashed? ](*,)

if this rom fix these issues with the mogul the touch will not be better than the mogul and i don't care for the small looks of it.

that's why u have teh hardware button at the button of the phone and use the stylus. if your phone does freeze, if not u can use the software softreset in the menus

I have fell in love with the wireless tethering on the mogul. I know its not too hard to plug in the usb. If Touch had wireless I might have made the jump. I even had e-care ready to do it but I chickened out and got another Mogul.

when u said "wireless tethering" u mean with a laptop wireless (bluetooth) is that's the case u can do this with teh touch and internet sharing just like u do in the mogul.

For input's sake:

I own the Alltel PPC6800 (Titan/Mogul). If this post is unwelcomed in this forum, I apologize and will hope that it is removed in haste and accordance...

I consider myself and my social circle phone whores based on the fact that I have owned ALL of Verizons & Alltels PDA's in the last 2 years and my other friend owns Sprint devices. As working professionals and techies, we enjoy the gadgets and almost OCD nature of installing and running aftermarket apps, etc. Personalization within any device will incur so downloading software that imitates another device is what makes these devices so great; becuase you can! I enjoy tinkering and owning whether latest or not just for the sake of owning. It's a vanity issue... However...

Strictly IMHO...I think the user unrest with the Mogul must come from a software issue and not a hardware issue within Sprint. My Alltel version is exceptional and after having unlimited access to a Sprint Touch (which is certainly nice), I couldnt dilute the thought in my mind that the Mogul is pound for pound, a better device OVERALL. I have seen numerous issues with the Sprint Mogul but I do not suffer these with my 6800. As others have mentioned, I think '08 updates will resolve this as Sprint did rush their device. Alltel took their sweettime to release w/ WM6 and it has worked great.

Keyboard aside, the WIFI is a great feature and I doubt it is a practical idea to have a WIFI SD card sticking out of the button of your device AND not have SD card access especially when devices are available with WIFI on it. Sure EV-DO has become available in many places but it's like having 4x4, it's better to have and not need than need and not have. I use my WIFI...

The numerous buttons along the side of the Mogul are programmable and are there for ease of use without having to tap and finger slide through the cube. The stylus, scroll wheel, touch screen... all add a level of accessibility. And everyone likes options.

The Touch form factor is compact. Again, personal preference has concluded for me that I like a solid phone-feeling device within my hand. Now I am 6'3" so it might be that I have alrge hands but the Mogul feels ideal. The Touch might appeal to a smaller hand crowd. I stow my device on my hip while others my store theirs in the pocket (beware the lint monster). And 64mb of more memory? Anyone who has owned several PDA devices know that the 128MB/256MB is the latest venture and not the norm. 64mb/128mb has been prevalent in the last generation of smart devices and we have been surviving and enduring. It wasnt enough to make me hop to the Tilt/Touch 128/256 wagon though. Really... for those who have used and now sacrifice WIFI/keyboard, scrollwheel but cannot simply close a few apps to keep things running smooth? Sounds like trying to eat your cake, icecream and get seconds too. Even a desktop with 1GB of ram and dual 2.4ghz processors must be shutdown frequently to close leaked memory and overlapping programs because lag is inherent over time. I have SKtools installed on ALL of my devices that keeps everything running smooth. While out-of-the-box operation is ideal, I have noticed through forum's, blog's, and software sites that aftermarket equipping is a substantial venue. You can get a great device and like it or you can get a great device and make it even better. It'a all personal preference.

This reply definitely was slanted to defend the PC6800/Mogul/Titan. With that said, I think the Touch is too...a terrific device and I really could advocate one over the other. As I have seen, most of you have visited the stores and experienced it for yourself. This is the best user advice to give. But you have to spend time. Once that little gizmo is attached to your hip and you whip it out to text, email, edit Excel documents, transfer pictures, google map Iowa, Bluetooth a phone call, beam a file, cut & paste files, add aftermarket apps, listen to music, etc will you truly appreciate what you have, dont have and what to do to acquire it. As with all technology, it will get better and while 64mb of memory cannot be added to the Mogul, a simple true-close app download will close programs after using and keep rom free.

There has to be a acceptable allowance to form, fit & function given current technological advancements that we must all accept.
