Re: Help!! Locking up

[QUOTE=mpreece;1288604]GOOD NEWS - BAD NEWS

EDIT: Based on further testing, it looks like "normal" GPS functionality may return on or about Nov. 8, if this is indeed a "date" issue. I was able to maintain operations with the airplane mode on and a manual date entry AFTER November 7. Firmware issue, perhaps?

==============================================

I have continued to fiddle with my CDMA Trea Pro (Alltel/Verizon) and have a probable workaround for this problem. It still needs to be tested for longevity (i.e., how long it works and/or is required) and it results in some loss of functionality in the phone although GPS is restored. THERE ARE NO REGISTRY TWEAKS NOR HARDWARE MODIFICATIONS REQUIRED. See if this works for you, too.

ok.....i went into clocks and alarms and unchecked enable local network time and use network time zone.

i then went into airplane mode.
turned on GPS Test....it took several minutes for it to go 3D. Once it did i turned off airplane mode and then started google maps. it located me quickly and followed me all the way to work. That took about 20 minutes.

Once i got here.....i turned off google maps and gps test and then restared gps test.....it was unable to find the gps unit much less connect to satelites.

I did not change the date at all.

I'll try it again later with out changing anything in the clocks and alarms section.

Re: Help!! Locking up

alrighty.......i turned off the radio with the button on top of the phone. started GPS test and went 3D. Once it was 3D i turned the radio back on with the button on top of the phone and started google maps. it found me quickly and tracked me until i closed the program 5 minutes later.

i didn't change any dates or adjust time or any settings any where. what i stated above is all i did after a soft reset.

Re: Help!! Locking up

Strangely, on mine unless I change the device's date, it eventually either locks up the phone or loses track that there is a GPS device in the phone.

I tried several date combinations last night, and right after getting a 3D lock the GPS appeared to shut down on dates to November 7. November 8 and later, however, it did not exhibit this behavior.

Re: Help!! Locking up

I think I have fixed the issue thanks to these threads:

http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=92926
http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=93131

Seems this issue is not limited to the Treo Pro. Here is what worked for me. I downloaded the xtra.bin file from this thread http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=92926&page=6 (post 59) and the program FileDate.exe from this thread http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread...=93131&page=10 (post 92). I extracted the xtra.bin file to my desktop and changed the created, modified, and accessed dates to today using Filedate.exe. I then backed up the xtra.bin file from My Device\Windows just in case I needed it to some other folder on my laptop. I then copied the modified xtra.bin file from my desktop to My Device\Windows and My Device\Temp folders. Then I started QuickGPS and went to Menu\Options and unchecked all boxes and then soft reset. Since then, even after several soft resets, I have been able to use GPS in ALL my GPS enabled software including:
Google Maps
Bing
BackCountry Navigator
Garmin Mobile XT
GPS Tuner
iGO 8
Delorme Street Atlas Handheld 2009
TomTom 7
TrackyPro
Sprint Navigation

Hope this works for others also.
This post has been thanked 1 times.

Re: Help!! Locking up

I've also had this start happening within the last two or three days. I'm also an Alltel/Verizon customer. The only thing I can add is that shortly before this problem, (over a period of about four days, approx), my phone mysteriously turned itself off several times. I'd look at it and realize the phone/radio was off. Twice, I heard it beep as it turned off. This leads me to believe it's some kind of Verizon network problem or related to the date.

I always appreciate what I learn on this site.

Has anyone tried this? Does it work for you also? Still working fine for me although not sure if this is a permanent fix or if QuickGPS will be able to be updated in the near future without causing issues.

Wow, yes, this "fix" is working perfectly for me so far. I've been running all my GPS apps off and on for about 3 hours now and so far no more issues...

Re: Help!! Locking up

Kudos to davidck65 on finding the solution to this. It works well for me, as well... at least until I run QuickGPS which ruins everything again. So, I guess for now, QuickGPS will be banished from my device.

Good job!

Re: Help!! Locking up

Just an update on my experiences. This week the phone is behaving MUCH better and the gps seems to be working fine. I had had trouble last Saturday getting Quick GPS to update but during this week it worked fine and I've updated it several times. Now everything seems to be back to normal ...or at least as normal as any Windows run product ever is!!

Could it have been something as simple as a corrupted or faulty Quick GPS update file?

As always, thanks for everything I learn here.
