Thanks fixxxer. That is possible. As the other users attest, this problem usually fixes itself. My phone has done this two or three times, and eventually comes back, for reasons unknown to me. Possible it could be a hardware problem, but does not seem likely. Back to the prior question: Are there any settings on the phone that survive a hard reset, and if so, how do I reset those settings? Any additional help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Just to help clarify. I have no trouble getting a GPS lock. However, as soon as I get a GPS lock, the GPS freezes. The UTC clock stops. The position does not change from where I got a lock. Google Maps goes from 8 satellites to 0 satellites. And I cannot get a lock again until I do a soft reset. After doing a soft reset, I can always get one, and only one, GPS lock and then the GPS freezes again. The GPS is obviously working, but something is causing it to freeze. That sound like a software problem.
