What's weird is that I remembered that I had an old gmail account that I no longer use. I was able to set up to that account just fine through the email program...hmmm. I'll try to reset the account I'm having trouble with once again and see what happens.

update: well I didn't change anything and just tried send/receive one more time before i deleted the account and set it up again. All of a sudden it worked. I don't know what happened but it seems to be working now.
