took it back
I bought the mogul last week...I have been using the 700wx for 8 months and have loved it...I had a 6700 before the treo. I had to return the mogul and go back to my treo for a few reasons. the treo has been a great phone for me. I just initially upgraded because I like the newest thing out like a lot of people. the mogul just wasn't going to work out for me though for a couple reasons. one is that I hate sliding it open to type texts and dial numbers. the treo is just much easier to use. plus the treo battery life is much much better. the treo also is a much more solid phone, I drop things from time to time. the mogul felt like it would break into 100 pieces. the last reason is that the program memory on the mogul isn't very useful...you run one program and your already down to 17mb. to be fair though the mogul is a definate upgrade over the 6700 for sure and it could be perceived as an upgrade over the 700wx for obvious reasons as well...it just didn't work out for me. I'm going to wait for the 800wx. that's my two cents. hope that helps.

Wait for the 800wx. PLUS, from what I've read, the Treo is much more efficient with memoery, not to mention it has much more RAM. I'm not sure where your information is from but that's what I've read on this forum. Treo FTW. Totally dude. No comparison. Plus, this has been discussed from the quick search I just ran, so do a search and read up a bit.

I played with the treo and mogul. I ended up staying with he mogul. I fell in love with the keyboard and found it easier to type than the treo's cramed tiny keys. Also the screen is wide on the mogul not square like the treo.Wider is better imo. And finally I have had several ppl stop me ansked what is this thing. hahha and when I slide the keyboard they loved it. So theres more sex appeal on the mogul. That's why I stayed with my mogul.

i did, I did about 25 days with my Mogul, and I only liked it for the first 7. As much as I wanted to like it, I ended up hating it more than any other phone I've ever owned. Went back to the Treo and I'm happy as a clam.

Thats the way I felt about the 6700. When my 6600 died and Sprint swapped me for the 6700 after about three days I called up Executive Services and saif that 'This is literally the worst PPC phone I have ever used, please give me something else.'
They gave me the 700wx and I've never been happier. There's a lot of thing I would like to see on the Treo, such as a 320x240 screen and maybe WiFi. A way to use the side button as a press or a press and hold would be nice. Now the Mogul is worthless. It's a prettier 6700 with more storage memory. Its still slow, it still doesn't have enough RAM and it's still a PITA to make a simple phone call. I'm not expecting great things out of the 800w, honestly. If they remove the antenna that will be great enough for me. I think the device is the near perfect combination of phone and PDA. Even though on paper 'It's slower' it consistently outperforms it's competition. The biggest thing is something you can't put on paper, and that's the customization Palm did to Windows Mobile. It's just plain easier to use and faster to do what you want. I wish HTC could do more in the software area and Palm could do more in the hardware area. Until one of them gets thier act together it looks like we'll have great-looking and feature packed but shitty to use HTC phones and great to use but shitty looking and featureless Palm phones. At least in the US. If I lived in Japan I'd have a Sharp W-Zero3. Give me a 480x800 screen and everything else can be forgiven ![]() |

I'm not sure why people would say the Treo 700wx is noticeably slower than the Mogul. Having owned both I can tell you that the only things that seem faster on the Moguls are launching some programs (just a bit faster), and Opera Mobile, which for some mysterious reason is dead slow on the 700wx (Opera Mini, Picsel and PIE are all very, very fast). Not to mention that on the 700wx I don't have to sit down and do an app quitting session every 4 hours to avoid a RAM meltdown like I used to have to do on the Mogul. The 700wx has never run out of memory on me, and that's running two web browsers, outlook, rss client, Sprint BC, a few today plugins, and a few more things. And of course, dialing a phone number on the Treo is a pleasure, whereas on the Mogul I practically avoided making phonecalls because it was so convoluted.
BTW - you can control the side button and hold action through the button settings, and you can customize it further with AE Button Plus. |

Now see, the Mogul users perspective isn't "I have to quit all these applications I'm running because I'm running out of RAM!", it's "Why do you need all those applications open in the first place?"
Since we have a great amount of RAM on the 700wx, we've just never worried about it. I don't see the point in quitting an application, but maybe that's just the Mac side of me coming through. With the 6600 since the 128MB of RAM was shared between the storage and the program memory, I never ran out of program memory because I never installed dozens of Apps. Which leads me back to the side button, I have it set to launch notes on a press and hold, but I wish I had the option to set a function for just a press. I know AEBP has that option, since I've installed it before, but installing for that sole purpose just isn't worth the hassle of being able to press one button instead of two (Windows button and I, in that case, to launch IE). |
