Did you try to delete the pairing on your PPC first? I assume you reinstall the PC so the pairing on PPC needs to be deleted. Make sure that the USB connector is securely attached. Try minimize the content sync exchange between the two first, like only select the My Document sync only to see what additional data could be the problem.

Well go to ActiveSync (click on the icon in Program folder), Menu (right softkey), Options (first on the list), It would list the PCs (max 2) and/or Exchange server (max 1) and you can delete or modify the entry...
