2) When you launch the modem program on the Treo and you Activate, make sure do the "power off the phone radio/the power the radio back on" as that is very necessary for the connection.

How do you do the "Power off" thing? and what exactly does that do?
\

also, how do you do a HARD RESET?

You have to hold down the RED End Key (to the right on the device, to hang up/power off).

That turns off the Cell radio. Then hold it down again and it turns it back on. You'll see the Yellow Sprint screen both times and a little chime.

If you don't do that step, you'll never get it to work!

Hard Reset: Take off batter cover and while holding down the RED END key, Insert the stylus into the reset hold. The follow directions on the screen.

Obviously a hard-reset delete ALL information from the phone except what it came with e.g. this sets it back to out-of-the box. So make sure you backup or you'll loose everything.

Are you asking if you have to do a hard reset everytime in order to get the connection to work? The answer is no.

I have this setup and running on Vista and XP with my Treo 700wx and it works fine. I didn't have any of the problems you guys are mentioning as D5's instructions are pretty straightforward.

Glad it worked!

PDAnet should work fine on a normal, stable Treo. But like I said, it seems subject to variation in performance due to individual setups of software and tweaks.

Code:
Are you asking if you have to do a hard reset everytime in order to get the connection to work? The answer is no.
Who's asking that?

The only issue kinextions had was he was not doing the radio-cycle trick.

Any mention of a hard-reset was strictly related to trouble shooting PDANet e.g. if you are experiencing lock-ups and crashes with it, try a hard-reset and just install PDANet on a clean device and see how it performs.

If it works fine, then it is your setup that is conflicting. Pretty straight forward.

Oh, I see. I thought kinextions was asking if he had to hard reset each time, not just cycle the radio. Sorry about that.

Big D5,

First time poster but long time lurker. Thank you for your step by step process. I could easily log into the internet. Although I have DSL in home, this will perfectly work when I am away and I don't have WIFI near me.

You are great for coming up something like this.

I know you posted this thread originally in December of 2006. I just want to know if you have been charged for using the TREO as a modem as of yet.

I am little scared...

Thanks for the reply it is nice for me to know someone is getting some good use from this process. Welcome to the PPCGeeks were glad you decided to post, and to answer your question, I have never been charged for using this. I tether my PPC's a lot because I travel with my work and WIFI isn't always available, I have never been charged.
