Re: Pre vs WinMo and others....

Whichever works for ya best. Personally I upgraded my pro to a pre, updated to 1.1 and it has been awesome since, I can't imaging going to 6.5 now.. At least till wm7 if its any good. It has the look and feel I have been trying to achieve on all my winmo devices and what it does, it does very well... I'm perfectly happy with my pre cuz it has what I currently need atm (great browser, contact manager, calendar, email, multimedia etc. Without having to use 3rd party alternatives) everything else is just icing on the cake

There are a lot of things that are absolutely awesome on the Pre. The GUI is second to none, the web is handeled very well (-java), and the way it multitasks is pretty dang cool..

Here are some of the issues making me want to return it.

No video recording
no onscreen keyboard
the dialer doesn't recognize if you type a name into the numbers (like pulling up "al" should be able to push 2 and 5)
no tethering ability with USB
can't select multiple items in email to delete or mark as read
no forwarding ability with sms or mms
mms doesn't play video
can't change notification sounds (are you kidding me?)
battery life is bad, but better than any winmo device i've owned, except it is almost impossible to pull the battery door to do a swap.
no external stroage

Still a pretty neat device, but I think I may stick with my TP..

Dustin
The first 9 are all software, they will get changed, or add-on software will do, the battery gets better after a few charges, and software updates could help that as well (or multiple Touchstones, one at work, one in car and one at home). The last one (no external storage) was a really big mistake, but 7.5 gig is still ok.

I see what you are talking about on the dialer. I cleard the second page on the launcher and use it just for speed dialing and I have created speed dialing from the dialer so up until now I would have never known this doesn't work.

As for the battery I considered getting a second battery but turns up that my battery lasts pretty much all day so I have opted to wait. I am considering a second touchstone though.

Re: Pre vs WinMo and others....

Ok here we go...

I have the lastest update 1.1

Smart dial works only when using the hardware keyboard.
not when using the on screen dialpad.

Future OTA updates will blow all doubt about this device {PALM PRE} out of the water...

ps. me and windows mobile is going thru a real nasty divorce right now, but she being win mo hasnt sign the papers yet..!O!

I agree that they should be software, but keep in mind the first 2 iphones were camera only with no video.

Re: Pre vs WinMo and others....

you have to be the biggest idiot to leave Palm Pre to go back to WinMo.

sh*t, the iPhone JUST got copy and paste and video... We had 3 updates in a month... I think WebOS is on the right track.

There's alot of lil things that can be better on this phone but not enough to make me ditch it. The smooth interface alone ****s on everything Windows Mobile has.

If I leave this phone it has to be either for a Android device or if Apple decides to make a iPhone with a hardware keyboard.

Not cool man. DexterDawg posted legitimate criticisms of the Pre. The phone is certainly not everyone's cup of tea. Same with the iPhone.

I can still see a lot of advantages to WinMO. I personally love what the Pre does right enough that I can ignore some of the omissions, but that's just me.

Re: Pre vs WinMo and others....

well i for one will no go back to Winmo, but i do see your point, there are definitely some stuff that i wish webos would do better, but most of that stuff ,i hope are addressed by Palm with updates, if Palms does not do anything im sure the community will.

i surely miss all the options to customize and setup your device that Winmo gives u but i will not go back.
