It's ridiculous to have to return a phone 4 times because they where all miraculously having the same hardware issue. Sometimes exchanges are completely necessary but in this case I seriously doubt it.
Although I'm the one who posted that (& I didn't make it up), I completely agree with you.

I have three TouchPro's (all running custom ROM's & the original is from early November) & have never had to have any of them replaced. I see the posts from people that are on their 10th TouchPro & wonder what the heck all the replacements where for...........

Re: Pre vs Blackberry

I have gad a touch pro for about a yr now. and im running might rom 5. for the longest i havent had any problems. but now its messing up real bad. like sometimes i cant even get into my texts.

my older brother got the pre and didnt like it becuz it the pre falls the right way you will get 3 cracks in the screen right over the center button. and then my GF dropped her pre and it crack the screen in the same spot.

My brother now has the Blackberry Tour and he said that the phone is 1000000x better than the pre. he said its easier to text and the battery last ALOT longer. and nowadays battery life is very important to me. so ill most likely skip over the pre and get the blackberry.

Re: Pre vs Blackberry

If u drop any phone the right way u will crack the screen. When it comes to the better batt. and texting I would give the nod to the tour, but not saying he pre has a bad keyboard r batt. life(it def last longer than my touch pro r diamond with a smaller batt.)Plus the Pre's batt. life will only get better with software updates.Where the Pre out shines the Tour is the OS.The Pre's multitasking is the best, web browsing is great, the multimedia experience is much better, and the Pre's UI just crushs the Tours. The blackberry OS is basically the same as 3 years ago only a little prettier. In the end though it depends on what your looking for.

Re: Pre vs Blackberry

I would have to say the Pre is a little more delicate than most phones. and i got the Tour last night and im loving it. but it does come down to what you want. i just got tired of taking my charger everywhere.

Re: Pre vs Blackberry

As far as sliders go its pretty sturdy to me,it feels better put together than my TP.I'v dropped the phone three times already(butter fingers)twice on ceramic tile at work. The best put together phone I'v had was the Vogue(man that phone took a beating). The Tour is a nice phone and being a Blackberry it will have great batt. life and just work.

Re: Pre vs Blackberry

I have the Palm Pre and the BB Tour. I'm a long time BB user and fan but seriously the Pre give the Tour a bad case of red @ss via a sever spanking in every category except battery life and world phone compatability which most don't need. To say the BB Tour is better than the Palm Pre is so funny! Read my BB Tour vs Palm Pre comparison on the very first sticky thread in the Palm Pre forum. I gave my Tour to my wife after I used and tested it out for a week. As stated a couple posts up, the BB Tour is same old BB Os nothing new and it doesn't hold a candle to the Palm Pre.

Wink Re: Pre vs Blackberry

The Pre is actually graet with tasks and calandar! Ive had almost everyphone on the market and am def. satisfied with the PRE! It has so many capabilities with room to still develop. I find myself using the calendar and setting appointments a lot with the pre. The phone keeps me very organized and on task. I just wish the battery life were a little better, but I do use the phone all day! LOL

i completely agree... battery life could be better, but the cards say it all! I love waking my pre up and seeing 10 things i was doing earlier and going right back to where i left off! The capacitive touch screen w/multi touch is a pleasure to have.

sure the Pre lags a lil when you have 15 cards open, but the OS tells you to close some cards, which is also a good thing, so you flick away the little things you don't really need anymore.

I wouldn't get another blackberry unless my job said it was a must.

apps are just getting better and better too! ESPN Zoom is just like those touchscreen bar games (like photo-hunt) where you have to find the differences between 2 photos... seems like developers are actually listening to what people want. There is an app to put your favorite sports teams' games into your calendar so you don't have to go through the pain of doing it manually. I know those arent the most productive things i've just mentioned, but the whole point is to make the users experience Quick, Simple, and Fun, which in-turn produces more productivity.

If you're a big calendar person, the slinky-effect of your free time is not only eye-pleasing, but it makes using and viewing your calendar a breeze...

i could prolly go on and on about how the Pre is better in almost every way, but you'll never know until you get your hands on one.

as far as build quality: Its pretty sturdy IMO... the top part has a little wiggle, but that is completely normal for a sliding phone. The actual sliding movement sometimes catches a small divit and hickups a little, but it is in no way something to get upset about. First thing i did was buy an Invisible Shield by Zagg for the front (best investment so far). Reason i didn't get one for the back is cuz i dunno how it would react with the Touchstone charger i'm buying soon.

Re: Pre vs Blackberry

I owned a Palm Pre for a moment. It was in interesting phone. Fun to use. But for the price, I could not justify keeping it. The build was flimsy. The thin, fragile back cover would not sit flush and creaked whenever I typed on the keyboard.
There is way too much play in the two halves of the phone when closed. It just feels cheaply built, which is too bad because the phone has a sexy, minimalist look.

The battery in the Pre is in a race with the Touch Pro for the title of worst battery in a phone.

And the phone, for all the flash of the WebOs, is missing basic phone functions that are found in nonsmart phones costing $200 less, such as video recording, voice dialing, notification lights and the ability to assign different alert tones for different needs such as text messages, voicemail and calendar. You can't even forward text messages. The phone is laggy as my Touch Pro. You touch an app, and if it registers the first time you touch it, you have to wait sometimes up to 4 seconds for the page to appear. Sometimes you touch the app and instead of registering, it will slide to the right or left, forcing you to touch it again.

I'm not going to pay $299 before rebate, for a phone that cannot do basic functions that come stock in my son's $49 Samsung Rant. My girlfriend says it's like purchasing a Lexus (insert your luxury car of choice) that doesn't have a speedometer, an air conditioning unit or CD/radio player.

Yea the multitasking is fun to play with and does come in handy. At this time WebOs is all this phone has going for it. That's not enough to justify the price for me. And I'm onboard with this operating system.

The Palm Pre has potential to be a winner. But it has serious work to do. I want a WebOs device. And I'll purchase the sophisticated device that Palm/Sprint will eventually come up with. Then I'll be eager to spend my $299.

The above only applies to me. Should you find yourself interested in this device, do your homework. Read other blogs, reviews and message boards and see what folk are saying, both yay and nay. Go to the store and fool with the phione for a good while. You might find that it meets your needs at this time.
