Re: Centro battery in palm pre

And now that I think about it even more, designing the Pre battery with the same form factor as the Centro battery and thus allowing the Centro battery to fit, all the while knowing it could burn out your Pre would open up Palm to liability lawsuits if a fire started or someone got hurt. Remember the Sony LiIon batteries that were lighting up?

What would be Palm's defense? We knew the thing could be a fire hazard and we could have easily prevented it by changing the size of a plastic corner peg but we were too lazy to do so? We also have the ability to detect the wrong battery, that might burn things out and possibly hurt the user, but choose not to tell the user? However we invested time developing tools to detect the wrong battery after the phone is burnt out so we can minimize warranty costs? Sounds like money in the bank to me... for the victim.

Usually the problem in these type of lawsuits is proving the manufacturer knew to get the big damages. In this case, though, folks are saying Palm *and* Sprint both know about it, but are choosing to disseminate the information through word of mouth?

Hope this info helps you guys because other then the looks of the outer skin the cells are alike...

Re: Centro battery in palm pre

And if you wanted to follow this on your own, here is a summary of the threads the discuss the issue.

Obviously, you can't "prove", from a logic standpoint, a negative (that burning out won't happen) from peoples' experiences, but you can get enough info to make your own educated decision. The actual users of the Centro battery, which seems to be quite a few, have not reported any problems, not even one.

My guess is you'll far more likely get hit by the Pre cracked screen defect than by the Centro battery burning your Pre.

Centro Batteries- Any issues, how are they working.

Re: Centro battery in palm pre

The new build of the pre has a different battery a bit bigger in size to help with the extra space in the case. got o a sprint store and tell them you need a replacement battery

Re: Centro battery in palm pre

So if Sprint can detect if a non-Pre battery has been used, too bad for Seidio battery sales. Their extra capacity batteries are always nice to have, but not if it voids the warranty.
