Re: Ontario ban's Texting & Talking while driving

Nova Scotia banned it except for headsets over a year ago, but I still see people almost daily breaking the law. I believe it is $165.00 fine for the first offense and goes up from there. Texting while driving is stupid as even if you can do it without looking it still requires that one of your hands is busy and your mind is still not focussed on the road.

Re: Ontario ban's Texting & Talking while driving

NY banned talking on cells while driving years ago. We just had a county (Albany) ban on texting put into effect a few weeks ago. Police have admited though, that this will be extremely hard to enforce. Kind of a "feel good" law more than a practical one.

Re: Ontario ban's Texting & Talking while driving

I don't live in Ontario, CA, but I'd like to point out that this is another example of stupid, incompetent people ruining life for others. All it takes to ruin productivity on the go for normal people is a few partial-birth, pea brains to cause accidents - when they really have no business driving in the first place.

This is the first time (and hopefully the last) I'm proud to live in Nebraska. We have insurance to protect us against those drivers who shouldn't be on the road anyway. Why in the world do we need laws telling people what to do? Is the same idiot that causes an accident while texting any safer without the phone?

<Oh dear God, I'm starting to sound Republican.>

They'll just spend less focus on driving, and more on *not getting caught.*

I've had Treos, A centro, Several Windows Mobile phones, both iPhones, and even the god-forsaken Instinct. I can proudly say I text while driving without causing accidents.

There's no art to it. You can either drive defensively, or you can't. For the less-competent, the idea is to text at stops... leaving the driving for driving.

But hey... whatever floats your boat (or sinks it).

Just my $0.02 (adjusted for deflation) .

Um, yeah... actually you are driving safer when you are not typing on your phone... they did a study.

Ummm.................. this is a good thing. How can anyone operate a moving vehicle while looking at a screen, while looking at a keyboard, while thinking about spelling operate a moving object. Your total attention is taking away while texting.
The talking on the phone while driving is not a total distraction. But having one hand type in digits to find the number is. Also, having one hand held against your head is not as safe as driving with both hands free.
