Ontario ban's Texting & Talking while driving

Ontario, Canada has banned talking and/or texting on a cell phone while operating a motor vehicle...

If you’re caught talking or texting while driving, you could face a $500 fine… if you put someone else at risk you could receive up to $1,000 fine, lose 6 demerit points… plus you could receive a suspension on your license and even some jail time!

i think it should be a federal law, my gf rear ended someone because she was texting (she said she wasnt but her stylus wasnt in the phone after the accident plus i know her pretty well lol) maybe an automatic suspension of the license for two weeks on the first offense would be enought to get people to quit. Fines dont mean anything, how many of us have had multiple speeding tickets??

Starting here in Honolulu - Bluetooth headsets are allowed.

California did that months ago. Texting's a no-no, phones may be used w/ BT. There's a thread addressing this issue in general...http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=51434

It should apply to anything that distracts or restricts control

In that case, the radio would be banned since it is distracting.. People's conversations would have to be banned since that is a distraction... Even using a bluetooth headset device is a distraction since a person is still holding a conversation...

You just have to get good at texting and driving. I can do it with my treo, it just takes practice to beware of your surroundings. When I first started I was a danger to society but I only practiced when no one was on the road. Now I can text in rush hour traffic. I haven't even gotten close to an accident (knock on wood).

But really if I wanted to have a conversation with someone I would just call them, I use text for short answers.
